The Indian has agreed to fund 80% of the total cost for dredging work in river Meghna on Bangladesh side, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has said.

Of the 90-km stretch from Sonamura in Tripura's Sepahijala district to Daudkandi in Bangladesh, around 40-km river bed is needed to be dredged in order to increase the water level. Once complete, it will operationalise the Indo-Bangla waterway connecting river Gomati, reports the Economic Times.

"The Central government is ready to bear 80% of total cost for dredging work on the Bangladesh side while the remaining part will have to be incurred by the host country", Biplab Kumar Deb told reporters after meeting with India's Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonawal on Tuesday (15 February).

India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways will undertake a hydrographic survey in two more rivers - Howrah and Deo, CM Deb said.

Nowhere it is written how much will be the cost. This Tripura CM is talking nonsense just like other Indian leaders. His statement is vague without a knowledge of the estimated amount of expenditures.

That's why he is saying 80%, whatever it costs to dredge it.
It is as precise as it can be without an agreed contract to dredge.
Whatever the final figure 80% will be borne by India to dredge the Bangladesh side of the river.
Generous is the word you are looking for.

What are you talking about? An expense now not visualized cannot be done with a blank cheque.

This is only as usual Indian propaganda. A real-life project cost is first estimated, the two sides start talking and negotiating, and then an agreement is reached on all aspects of the project including expenses.

But, here this Tripura CM is giving BD a blank cheque. It has no meaning before negotiations start.

.
It has EVERY meaning. Whatever the cost, India will bear 80% of the contract value.
It is as clear as clear can be.

Amplify the cost of the Project by about 20%; so that it is almost 100% borne by India.

BD people know the Indian mindset very well. I am the one not to trust an Indian overture on its face value. An agreement should be negotiated and signed before one can really take it seriously.

Non-Bangalis cannot board a boat like those above in our big rivers. They will succumb with fear.

Indian state is a confirmed fraudulent entity. Its numerology is 420.

Fortunately we dealing with rational people in Bangladesh and not a frustrated keyboard onanist cleaning toilets in Japan.
But why are you sticking with the Indian version of 80% that can be swayed any way it wants. Please ask your govt to specify the total cost of expenditures and tell BD India will provide 80% of the amount. Problem solved.

It is better to wait and see what really comes out of the negotiaions.

But, note that the gob will not agree to this dredging. BD will be engulfed with Indian spies.

A contract has clauses with experts on both sides evaluating the conditions. Are you suggesting that the contract teams on your side will be sleepwalking through the entire process?

Come on, even with India ready to foot 80% bill, you are having issues. :disagree:

Our plan for our development may not always jive with India's (Tripura's) interests.

Ultimately - we decide what we do in our territory.

What advantage does this bring for BD that we should agree to this nonsense?

India is simply untrustworthy.
