India - Why did Pakistan starlet disappear?
Laila Khan, a struggling Pakistani actress like many of her peers tried to make a foray into Bollywood nearly half a decade ago. Her dreams of seeing herself on Indian screens materialised soon enough with this film, ‘Wafaa’ in 2008. A promising film career beckoned till the starlet fell off the map in January, 2011, leaving her director in the lurch. And then came the shocking revelation, reports of her links with the Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT) stormed the media.
Reports which claimed the actress’s car was in fact used for ferrying explosives ahead of the blast in New Delhi in September 2011 after which the vehicle was taken to Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir.
And not just that, reports also claim the starlet was in fact commisioned by the LeT to supply information on Mumbai last year.
It was a farmhouse in Igatpuri where Laila along with her family allegedly took shelter but was reduced to rubble after being burnt down, destroying all proof.
As the mystery around Laila intensifies, Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) sources say even though there is no clear terror link the case is under investigation. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan too puzzled by the Pakistani actress’s case, “I will collect more info and then respond.” A Pakistani actress, an aspiring Bollywood star or a dangerous LeT operative, Laila’s stint in India and her sudden disappearance raises several questions.
