India welcomes Chinese investment in roads across country

When it comes to roads,we should check in South Korea.

When my uncle visited South Korea 5 years ago,he was astonished about one particular feature of the roads there, they had aircraft landing markings i.e their quality was as good as that of a runway.

For a country like South korea,it obviously makes sense to have such high quality logistics considering their geographic proximity to their enemy.

India should take them as an example.

BUY MADE IN AMERICA GOODS ONLY!!

Washington: In another protectionist measure primarily aimed at China, the US House of Representatives passed two different bills that mandate the Congress and the Department of Homeland Security to purchase only US-made goods.

The Congressional Made in America Act, introduced by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, requires the Congress to buy goods and services made in America for the first time in nearly seven decades.

Similarly, the Berry Amendment Extension Act, introduced by Congressman Larry Kissell directs the Department of Homeland Security to buy clothing, tents, and other products made in America.

These two bills, unanimously passed by the House, will help in creating American jobs, and expand America's manufacturing sector, said Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives.

Why should India build expensive roads that can double as airfields when it doesn't have enough for cars?

I still want an answer to your original question. Why can't the pace of India's road building keep pace with other developing countries when it has the know-how, money, and the need.

Lack of vision and multi-management skills; the bane of the Indian Bureacratic system.
Sometimes it amazes me, that India has got where it has; in spite of the bureaucracy.

Exactly, but want to learn from their experience, especially about building long-lasting roads,So that each time monsoon passes over we don't have to repair them.

Weird logic eh?Simple sense,we want to learn from everyone's experience,so that we can avoid the mistakes already done.

Fair enough. While you're at it ask about how one can keep Canadian roads from crumbling in winter. I don't want to pay to fix my suspension again.

Chinese investment in Indian highways to rise 3-fold

NEW DELHI: The security concerns raised by the home ministry regarding investment of Chinese companies in select sectors have not come in the way of the Centre encouraging more investment from Chinese firms in the highway sector.

Projects of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the prime implementing agency for highway construction in India, will see a three-fold increase in investment from Chinese companies in the next one year.

Nine Chinese companies, in joint ventures with Indian contractors, are already implementing six highway projects worth Rs 2,478.32 crore in India. Three highway projects worth Rs 1,264.24 crore have been completed. Minister of road transport and highways Kamal Nath said, “The investment of Chinese companies in Indian highway sector will increase three times.

We are all set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China.”

Even though India is eyeing increased investment by Chinese companies, the contractors do not show a very good implementation record. All projects awarded to joint ventures with Chinese companies are running behind schedule. Of the six ongoing projects, four projects on Hyderabad-Bangalore highway were awarded in March 2007 and had a deadline of August last year.

They are running a year behind schedule and are likely to be completed by the end of this month or beginning of September. Two other projects — one six-laning project in Kerala and another four-laning of Ahmedabad-Godhra section — were awarded only in February this year and have a deadline of August 2012.

The three completed projects were also finished beyond deadline. The worst delay was in a Madhya Pradesh project which had a deadline of February 2008 but was completed eight months late in October that year. Another project in Rajasthan, awarded in October 2005, had a deadline of April 2008 but was finished only in December 2008.

A Gujarat project fared slightly better where the deadline was November 2007 but was completed six months late in May 2008.
