The truth is Chinese workers is 4 times expensive compared to your countrymen. The reason China wins in the economic arena is that we have the know-how of a higher productivity and you don't.

After years of diplomatic maneuvering, India was elected with a hands-down majority on Tuesday as the Asian regional representative to the 15-member UN Security Council, joining Brazil and South Africa in a bloc of emerging economic powers.

India secured 187 votes on Tuesday in the 192-member UN General Assembly in a move seen as a key step towards a permanent seat on the UN Security Council and recognition of India’s status as a growing world power.

At the time of going to press it was unclear whether Pakistan and China had voted against India along with three other countries.

After a gap of 18 years, India stood unopposed for the Asia seat as the only other contestant in this category, Kazakhstan, withdrew from the race in December last year. India just needed to clinch two-thirds of the General Assembly vote on Tuesday, that’s 128 votes.

But the thumping majority underlines growing support for India’s bid for a permanent seat when serious negotiations begin for expanding the Security Council next year.

I've just checked about it. It turns out that India is a country as import as Bosna i Hercegovina or Lebanon or République Gabonaise to the world.

Magnificent achievement indeed, Bravo!

Indians always have an over estimation about themselves. Non-permanent membership of the UNSC is mere a 2 year-ticket for other countries to have chance to see how the big five manage the world. No more no less.

Little thing called timing as to why India was given a seat now just before the serious reform starts of the UN security council

India had got the seat before~ about 3 or 4 times since the UN was formed. But nooothing happened.

NEW YORK: Britain today backed India's bid to get permanent membership of the UN Security Council.

The support came at a meeting between External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his British counterpart William Hague who met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today made a powerful call for early reform and expansion of the UN Security Council "to reflect contemporary reality".

After meetings of the G-4 countries including India, Brazil, German and Japan pushing for reform of the UNSC in which India wants to be a permanent member, the Prime Minister said the world needed a stronger and more effective UN.
