Cross-border tensions rise as BSF claims Padua territory

Sylhet, July 18 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladesh Rifles said Saturday that their Indian counterparts had attempted to lay claim to around 200 acres of land on the Padua border in Sylhet, ratcheting up cross-border tensions in the area.

West Jaflong Union Parisad chairman Faizul Islam told bdnews24.com India's Border Security Force claimed the area was Indian territory and had recently felled a number of trees in the area.

The disputed land covers Panthumai and Pratappur villages.

A BDR officer, preferring anonymity, said they had resisted repeated efforts by BSF to occupy land adjacent to Pillar-70 on the Padua border.

"Their mission failed in the face of stiff resistance from Bangladesh border guards," said the BDR officer.

Deputy Commissioner for Sylhet Sazzadul Hasan told bdnews24.com that he had not been informed of the alleged incursion.

okay I guess the BDR isn't wholly inefficient as I usually think they are.

There are also some 1.6 square km of land occupied by the Indians in Naogaon. Not to mention the so many chars and pieces of land that went to Indian side due to erosion.Damn this is bad.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be another disaster like the last one in Hasina's last tenure.

did the conversion says that 200 acres is like .81 of sq km so yes it's quite a lot of land for us.

Now it is becoming more and more evident indians were behind Pheelkhana massacre. BDR might have done best it could given the transition time.

But problem is indian Awami stooges in power may will ask BDR to stand down and give BSF walkover to occupy Bangladesh territory. The way Awami stooges let Peelkhana massacre happened, pulling BDR to stand down is real danger.

Hasina couldn't afford to have another border fiasco this time. The last one got her unelected.I hope she is more intelligent now.
BTW that fight also occurred near the villages mentioned,no?

We need our own fence. We need it now.

You worry about la-hasina stay in power or concern should be with our territory. Bro la-hasina and her sick family doesn't care about bd or it's matter. When you guys will come to your sense and reject this traitorous family and dalal awami. It still doesn't think bd is a sovereign nation as it doesn't even say the word"Bangladesh zindabad" instead "joi bangla".:hitwall:

What the **** is Bangla? seriously I mean what the **** is it?

India has opened multiple fronts against Bangladesh.

On river: Indian is planning to make Bangladesh desert by Tipaimukh and Fulertal Barrage

On Corridor: Undermining Bangladesh strategic and security concern coercing corridor in name of Asian highway.

On Trade: Forcing Bangladesh to unilateral trade concession by using FTA.

On security: Undermining Bangladesh defense by forcing and coercing so called south asian taskforce

indian goal:
indian goal is not only to use Awami stooge govt and impose aggression on Bangladesh but also overwhelm and distract Bangladesh with so many simultaneous fronts.

Inshallah my Bangladeshi brothers will overcome the India problems my prayers are with you guys i hope Pakistan can help in any ways..like supplying Arms and Mujahideens.

Al zakir bro,

If our BDR officers and Jawans are still loyal to Bangladesh, they will resist any kind of Indian aggression. And they won't even care about Hasina and her Dynasty.

The reason for saying this, the last time 16 BSF intruders were killed,Hasina was in power. But the BDR did not listen to her to remain silent, instead they did their duty.

But the problem is systematic sacking of army officials who are not loyal to Hasina. There is a silent purging going on in Bangladesh military. If this continues,it won't take time that Bangladesh military will be filled by Chatra League cadres.

No BDR did not say that, some parisad guy said and some unnamed BDR guy said... and the govt official there did not even know of the incident... come on... such baseless bull is for jamati supporters only.

Not even a week ago indian prime minister made a statement "india would not do anything to harm the relation with Bangladesh". Most Bangladeshis knew that was a lie. But it took only few days to prove again indians are pathological liars.

Not only indians are actively killing people of Bangladesh but also attempting to occupy Bangladesh territory by military means.

Good to know that.

Shravan,

I think you would like to do some research on South Talpatti island.India militarily occupied it.

Look at the location of the island. And say which country it should belong.

I know about the Island.

If India had imperialistic intentions in Bangladesh, she could have easily annexed East Pakistan into the Indian Union after the decisive victory in the 1971 war. Chittagram Hills, which had more than 90% non-Muslim population in 1947 could have been claimed by India.

Bangladesh receives good rainfall, so there is no chance of it becoming a desert, even if India wishes so. Yes, the boundaries are not clearly demarcated and the issues of exclaves and enclaves do exist. The rivers do change courses and islands do disappear due to soil erosion. That does not mean that India is going to occupy Bangladesh, especially now when we have a pro-India government in Bangladesh.

On the other hand, India has its own concerns with Bangladesh ranging from illegal immigration (observed as aggression by the supreme court) to safe haven for terrorists in Bangladesh territory.

Closer cooperation between the two countries can resolve these issues.
