I believe this is a very serious issue. I pity the standard of any person that will use the topic of undernourishment to sling mud at each other, which has been the prime motive of this thread.

But a good find nonetheless.

Comparing Indian poverty to Pakistan? . Indian poverty is the worst kind . Have you seen your slums? . Those kind of slums are not even found in Somalia . Our Cities are much cleaner than yours , as a percentage have much less poverty , less inquality and as a whole has a bigger share of middle by percentage of population , Spends more per day according to world bank. The so - called slums in Pakistan would pass off as palaces in India where there is like one bathroom for hundreds of people . There is much more visible prosperity in Pakistan according to foreigners .

Laaton ke bhoot, bhai laton ke bhoot.

On topic, tons of work is needed in this field. I can't comment on other countries by in India a major portion of this malnourishment comes from vegetarianism. Gujrat is the perfect example of this.

so your posting a year old thread and silent on links i gave what do you call it sir besharmi aur dhitaee or ghairath and khudmukhtaree :azn:

I am aware Pakistan's progress is poorer than India's , however previously Pakistanis like the OP will point out India's large figure and believe Pakistan is better off since it does not have 194 million people undernourished, without realizing logical flaw in the judgment.

One Pakistani think tank even considered this report rubbish because it stated % of Pakistanis being undernourished being greater than India's.

Let us analyse the progress that India, Pakistan and BD have made from 1990-2015.

1. India has gone down from 24% down to 15% of the population that are malnourished, which is a decrease of 36%

2. Pakistan has gone from 25% down to 22% of the population that are malnourished, which is a decrease of 12%

3. BD has gone from 32% down to 16% of the population that are malnourished, which is a decrease of 50%

No surprises that Pakistan has made the least progress as it has had the slowest GDP growth rates of the 3 countries in the last 25 years.

What is interesting is that India, despite showing higher growth rates than BD, has done nowhere near as well as BD. Yes, the fact that it had less hunger to start off with would have made it more difficult to reduce as fast as BD but that does not tell the full story.

Diving head first just to troll and make fun of people's poverty will do that to you and he is nowhere to be seen. @Tripoli

Offcourse he did, for a nation that hasn't had a census in almost two decades & don't know many people it has, they have some very authoritative numbers in terms of GDP, per capita income, poverty etc.

And thats good, a developing neighbour will always be good for us. India showing higher rates has nothing to do with malnutrition. India is a hotpotch of many political parties with their different ideologies. A simple land bill takes year to pass. What central plans for the poor, the regional parties will exploit that. So, India will take much longer tiime to reduce poverty than Bangladesh. All the best for your country's progess.

Seems like UN group has a different opinion.

Nobody defines slums based on their aesthetics

UN definition of a slum is:

A slum household is defined as a group of individuals living under the same roof lacking one or more1 of the following conditions:
  • Access to improved water
  • Access to improved sanitation
  • Sufficient-living area
  • Durability of housing
  • Security of tenure

Based on 2013 data Pakistan is more than a decade behind India in slum development despite starting off better than India.

Proportion of urban population living in slum area:

2v1lq91.jpg

https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/content/documents/745habitat.pdf

Pakistan's 2009 slum population % is close to what India had in 1995

In the last 2 decades India made a 25.5% drop in slum population

While Pakistan made 4.4% drop.

In regard to poverty, congrats for having lower poverty stats than India despite having not proper economic growth or fighting a war within your own nation.

Pakistanis are better than Indians in everything which can not be proved or have no data to back it up :-)
