With all the claims that you both are making on Thorium based reactors (which is the topic of discussion in case you've not noticed yet) one would assume that you have atleast SOME idea what they are or maybe have SOME idea about the progress made by various countries in Thorium reactors.

In case you both have no clue what they are (going by your comments you obviously are oblivious of what they are), can you both atleast do a google search and educate yourself instead BS'ing?

3. Go thru the search results.

please read something about nuke energy generation before you attempt another post.
It is not the question of whether India is a master or China..the fact of the matter is that most countries have ample Uranium reserves....while India and SL don't...India decided to go the unconventional way by using thorium found in the monazite sands of kerala in abundance and using fast-breeder reactors....so that we don't need to import uranium for our power generation....that was before the nuke deal(123/Hyde act) happened now since nobody else has been doing this...the SL govt. obviously wants our help...no politics here only common sense.

Now moving on to the Thorium based reactors.

India's Kakrapar-1 reactor is the world's first reactor which uses thorium rather than depleted uranium to achieve power flattening across the reactor core. India, which has about 25% of the world's thorium reserves, is developing a 300 MW prototype of a thorium-based Advanced Heavy Water Reactor (AHWR). The prototype is expected to be fully operational by 2011, following which five more reactors will be constructed. Considered to be a global leader in thorium-based fuel, India's new thorium reactor is a fast-breeder reactor and uses a plutonium core rather than an accelerator to produce neutrons. As accelerator-based systems can operate at sub-criticality they could be developed too, but that would require more research. India currently envisages meeting 30% of its electricity demand through thorium-based reactors by 2030.

Under the USGS estimate, Australia and India have particularly large reserves of thorium. India and Australia are believed to possess about 300,000 metric tonnes each; i.e. each country possessing 25% of the world's thorium reserves

This is a great opportunity for Sri-Lanka It should also have abundant thorium reserves.

India to share nuclear technology with Sri Lanka

India is likely to share its nuclear technology with Sri Lanka for power generation using Thorium as the main source of energy, Science and Technology Minister Tissa Vitharana said Friday. The Daily Mirror newspaper quoted Professor Vitharana as saying India is prepared to support Sri Lanka with setting up a nuclear power plant and that he had requested IAEA support for the project. Professor Vitharana also told the paper he had invited Indian nuclear scientists to conduct a feasibility study on the use of Thorium deposits – said to be found in abundance along Sri Lanka’s southern costal belt – as a source of nuclear energy for power generation.

“I had fruitful discussions with the Indian delegation in Geneva when I attended the IAEA’s annual sessions recently. They are prepared to assist us in utilizing Thorium as a source of energy for a future nuclear power plant and to share the necessary technology as India has successfully developed the use of Thorium for nuclear power generation,” Prof. Vitharana told Daily Mirror.

He said the feasibility study would include such matters as cost effectiveness, safety in use of nuclear material and safety in waste disposal and added that he had spoken to the IAEA requesting its support for the project.

He said India had successfully developed a pilot plant using Thorium instead of Uranium and were now on the verge of commissioning a major nuclear power project with Thorium as the source of energy.

“While we could get the benefit of the new technology developed by India to utilize Thorium as a source of energy, we also need to conduct a proper survey to determine the full extent of Thorium reserves in Sri Lanka. This will be a part of the feasibility study before a final decision is taken to determine whether we turn to nuclear energy to supply power to the national electricity grid,” Prof. Vitharana said.
