India to Go Undersea for Gas Transit from Qatar to India?

this project will be shelved even before it starts, now who is gonna gurantee safety of deep sea pipeline here?

Safety of the pipeline is not the issue, the issue is the cost. Terrorist or pirates can't attack deep sea pipelines since they are built at great depths. Secondly these pipelines will go through international waters to it would not cross into anyone else's waters.

The pipelines would reach a depth of 3,500 meters and the terrain has been extensively surveyed over the last two decades.

.
well ,there is a problem with this sort of project and that is if some terrorist attack it ,it would be very hard to fix it .
this is a gas pipeline so environmental effect of accidents are far less than an oil pipeline , but I still worry about espionage and terrorist attacks right now its very easy for private companies and treasure hunters to order small robots that can work at the bed of seas ,and as we all knew some of the terror groups have far more funds at their hand compared to some governments. and those robots can be used for attacking these pipelines.

another matter is that such pipeline is extremely expensive and I guess would be tens of time more expensive than estimated 10 milliard dollar , that 10 milliard dollar is more in line of the price of putting the pipeline on the land.

read the above quote,

there is no assurance or safety here, it would be one more expensive environment disaster in making.

Because your UPA government is submissive to USA. Seriously, Indra has more balls than MMS.

Also the Qatar oil field is shared with Iran.

Laying undersea pipe line is neither cheap nor easy and that will make the gas incredible expensive for incredible Indians.

This is just another incredible mind fart of incredible Indians.

Well they would not send a trade delegation to Iran to increase trade would they? if we slave of USA like your puppet Saudi goverment

you can buy a robot that can operate in deep sea under the name of a fake company for cheap
for example what stop them from going and renting or buying one of these and use it for attack
Submarines and ROVs for sale and hire by Silvercrest Submarines
or get one from here
Sub-Find

well but depth of the pipeline will be some where around 3500m but latest modern submarine can dive maximum upto 800m The subs you mention can dive upto 200m.

This reminds me of my physics class that is the pressure of any water body depends on
P=hpg
h-depth of water
p-density of water
g-gravity

no some of them are rated to up to 2000m maximum and they are some example .there are some utility subs that are rated up to 7000m . more importantly 3500m is deepest part but there not all of the pipe would be at that depth.

another matter that 800m is military subs but there are designs that are not suitable for military but are capable of going as down as 11km under sea.

Well i agree with you there have been subs which can dive deep, there have been instance where subs can dive in Marina trench. But still taking out pipeline ain't an easy thing mate, if they take out the pipeline probably it is back to using ships or back to stone age:D.

one thing is it would take huge investment as the distance from Qatar to india is too much ,may be myanmar or even iran option can be feasible.( or better word slightly more economical)

.
I was indicating at a Kargil type situation executed by "freedom fighters" or agents backed by Army .
Even if PN wants to blow up the pipeline it needs to try hard . Its not like Kargil where Pakistanis took over mountains in our absence .

.
But beneficial in long runs.

Through land is quite not possible in present conditions and more risky and extra expenses like transits.

Undersea are laid where even submarines cant dive.. so forget the bunnies or adventurist KABOOM guys.

i couldn't help but laugh at the descriptive "adventurist KABOOM guys". LOL!

If one were to think short term, shipping gas from Qatar to India via a naval route be feasible, however, if one is to think long-term, the development of pipeline should be initiated.

teehee... look who is talking about being submissive, wen you guys are actually letting us kill your soldiers and citizens and taking money in return.

Did you know that Indian companies own about 25% of all deep sea fibre optic undersea cables for internet traffic. mostly all the anti india rhetoric spewed by Pak and chinese here travels to and from us on indian cables. try to destroy that then you can think og oil pipes

Actually what i read from a newspaper report was that India plan to extend a branch of this pipeline to Iran once current bout of confrontation cools down and US pressure is relieved a little.

Read it months ago in Indian express. Can't find the link.

I have made a post regarding this, as below:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/econom...offers-gas-export-pakistan-4.html#post2752318

Sir, there are few things in world which don’t have name of the country who is exporting. These are Gold, Petrol/ Diesel, Gas, Diamond, Silver, Copper, Iron and other minerals etc. if you want to buy these stuffs, you would just find the ‘cheapest’ supplier and get these things, if it is required. No matter from which countries India imports oil/ gas, gold, diamond etc type things, if you can get these things at a cheaper rate from India, especially in this case which may supply gas/ oil to Pakistan within months through border and fulfill the immediate need, you would just go for it . Rest, there are many trade items like manufactured goods for which Pakistan may think whether they want to import expansive items from West or they want the same type of stuffs from China/ India with cheaper prices. In fact, they would try to build their own industries for the manufactured stuffs which they import from China and also from India to an extent. :meeting:

India considered all the aspects of importing gas through IPI or from Turkemanistan via TAPI route but it was found, they won’t go for it. The first reasons were the ongoing troubles in Baluchistan on IPI line route and second the Pakistan’s north west states which are on TAPI route and NATO is bombing there. I remembered, in 90s, Indian side wanted the Iran to commit the gas supply on the Indian border and ask for the price of the gas India will get on its border, regardless how Iran does it. But Iran never accepted to commit and they were stick on guarantee of supplying gas till Iran-Pakistan border only and rest the responsibility would go on Pakistan, how they may ensure its supply through their land. Iran struggles with their own Baloch separatists, they never wanted to commit for the things which may happen to over 500km long pipeline through Baluchistan. With these, there was also a group of Indian strategic think tank who worried for any conflict between India and Pakistan which may also interrupt the energy supply, they had recent Kargil war in 1999 and also war type situation in 2002 also. :coffee:

And the second most important thing which discouraged IPI and TAPI pipelines were the economic factors. It was argued, if India has to give $1.0bn to Pakistan as transit fee and even if it may cost $3.0bn more on maintenance side through deep water gas pipeline from Iran, it is still beneficial to go for sea route. As, if you give $3.0bn to your own workers for maintenance of gas pipeline via sea then they will also pay direct taxes and then they will spend their money in home country itself, means more indirect taxes. It will first employ your own workers and also will keep the money inside the country which will then be circulated in different business activities of India itself, its the money you give to your own civilians for the maintenance of gas pipeline through sea route. It was found, paying $1.0bn to Pakistan as a transit fee would be a ‘net loss’ and it will have same effect on economy if India pay $3.0bn to its own workers for extra maintenance cost for gas pipeline through sea route :agree:

But yes, the world doesn’t stop here. If we move forward then we will find many opportunities in future. Trade link to Afghanistan and Central Asia though Pakistan always attracted India but we have to liberalize the bilateral trade first and then we would move for the next steps
