India to get most lethal and advance Cluster Bombs from USA

We should not waste money on fancy stuff like this,

we will not be using these bombs anyways.

Dear, bombs are not procured for using .....but for possibility of use......in ither worlds deterrence......

just like our dear pakistan when pinned from every corner always raise head in da name of nuclear bombs.....

do u really think they wud ever use them ?never.....it wud be apocalypse fro them and even they know it......

still its a nice deterrence.

While USA is beating the drums of normalizing indo-Pak relations and strategic dialogue with Pakistan the constant sale of advance weaponry to India ensures a dispatriate balance of power as encourage to India for attacking Pakistan under hyped up / false circumstances like mumbai terror drama. This is the two face duplicity of European colonials still prevailing over the world politics.

These will be very useful against Al-khalid or china.

Al-Khalid is a modern MBT with ERA protection, and this weapon was only used against rusty old soviet designed t-62's, T-72's, and T-50's (without era protection) that the iraqis were using.

Each of the canisters that are ejected out from the bomb only fire a small molten copper projectile that won't be enough to penetrate the armor of a modern MBT such as the Al-Khalid and Al-Khalid I.

It might damage it, but won't disable it or penetrate it.
 
from what I recall, ERA is mostly on the sides of MBTs, the top section is by far still the most vulnerable part of tanks.

The main advantage of this weapon is that its top-attack. It strikes the weakest part of the tank. The top Armour of a tank is not even close to the armour on the front/sides.

Furthermore I would not say this is not merely a "copper projectile" but something known as explosively formed projectile or a self-forging warhead.This is different from the normal "shaped charge" employed on anti tank weapons.

A conventional shaped charge generally has a conical metal liner that projects a hypervelocity jet of metal able to penetrate to great depths into steel armour; in travel over some distance the jet breaks up along its length into particles that drift out of alignment, greatly diminishing its effectiveness at a distance.

An EFP, on the other hand, has a liner in the shape of a shallow dish. The force of the blast molds the liner into any of a number of configurations, depending on how the plate is formed and how the explosive is detonated. Indian should buy more percision guided bombs. These kind of weapons should be banned all over the world. Un-exploded bombs will leave mine feelds behind and innocent civilians, weather Indians, Pakistanies or Chinese, are all innocent. I am very disappointed with this purchase.
 
SFW is a futuristic cluster bomb and do not left any bomb unexploded.


It will increase India's capability but I think India already had some smart cluster bombs.

This weapon uses IR seeker to strike the engine cover of the tank and disables it.
 
dirty waipon i hate these bombs which kill innocents even after 30 years of war.

No, it doesn't. The Sensor Fuzed Weapons do not let any bomb unexploded. Watch the video.

I am not in favor of cluster bomb but SFW seems to be good.
 
India strikes deal with US for cluster bombs

The Indian Air Force will soon receive one of the most lethal bombs in the world.

The US government announced on Thursday that it had cleared the sale of 512 CBU-105 sensor-fused bombs to India by awarding a $257.7-million contract to Textron Systems Corporation, under foreign military sales (FMS) programme.:cheers:

Combat proven on April 2, 2003, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the US made sensor-fused bombs were fired from long-range, strike fighter aircrafts and took out multiple Iraqi tanks in a single pass.



Defence analysts said the Indian Air Force could use its Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets to launch the half-ton CBU-105 cluster bombs to devastating effect.:cheers:



India originally requested the sale in 2008 and estimated the cost at $375 million for the bombs and associated equipment. While making a case for the sale, the Pentagon told the US Congress that the bombs would help India “enhance its defensive ability to counter ground-armoured threats. The missiles will assist the air force to develop and enhance standardisation and operational ability with the United States”.



Equipped with active laser sensors on each warhead, one cluster bomb unit can simultaneously detect and engage many fixed
and moving land combat targets within a specific coverage area.


Each CBU-105 warhead carries 10 computer-controlled, radar-equipped “bomblets” or “submunitions” over an area; the bomb is dropped using a parachute and it seeks out armored tanks to destroy. Defence experts said the cluster bombs have three options — if an armored tank is spotted, the guidance system fires a charge at the tank; if there are no tanks the bomblets rip into cars within 100 metres; if there are no cars they self-detonate.

Over a hundred countries have signed the convention on cluster munitions (CCM) treaty, which prohibits the use of bombs like the CBU-105, as it releases small bomblets over a wide area posing high risks to civilians during attacks. India and the US are not signatories to the convention.:azn:

Pakistan states that it has “never used cluster munitions in any conflict to date.”[8]

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) produces and offers for export M483A1 155mm artillery projectiles containing 88 M42/M46 dual purpose improved conventional munition (DPICM) grenades.[9] The South Korean company Poongsan entered into a licensed production agreement with POF in November 2004 to co-produce K-310 155mm extended-range DPICM projectiles in Pakistan at Wah Cantonment. While the ammunition is being produced for Pakistan’s army, the two firms have said they will also co-market the projectiles to export customers.[10] The Pakistani army took delivery of the first production lots in April 2008.[11]

Jane’s Information Group reports that the Pakistan Air Weapons Center produces the Programmable Submunitions Dispenser (PSD-1), which is similar to the United States Rockeye cluster bomb, and dispenses 225 anti-armor submunitions.[12] Jane’s states that the Pakistan National Development Complex produces and markets the Hijara Top-Attack Submunitions Dispenser (TSD-1) cluster bomb.[13] It lists Pakistan’s Air Force as possessing BL-755 cluster bombs.

so does this imply that Pakistan already has in its arsenal a cluster bomb similar to what the indians are now getting from the U.S.?
