India defers decision on easing visa norms for China

NEW DELHI: The memorandum of understanding between India and China on a liberalized visa policy for their professionals and tourists visiting the other country is not likely to be signed during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Beijing next week.

The Cabinet on Thursday deferred a decision on easing visa norms for Chinese nationals, especially businessmen and tourists, as India wants the policy to be reciprocated and to be mutually beneficial but no assurance on this is forthcoming from Beijing.

Singh is now not likely to sign the MoU with China on the issue during his visit to Beijing on October 22.

Sources said the Cabinet deferred a decision as China wants long term visas for its IT professionals working in India on various projects but is said to be dilly-dallying on a quid pro quo for Indian IT professionals belonging to companies like TCS, Wipro and the like who are working in China.

The proposal that was to be discussed by the Cabinet sought to liberalize the visa policy due to expansion in trade between the two countries and subsequent increase in visits by Chinese businessmen. These visitors belong mainly to the information technology (IT) and infrastructure sectors.

The government was to revisit the 2003 protocol in the wake of a substantial increase in visits by Chinese nationals, which has led to jump in FDI inflows and involvement of that country in infrastructure projects here.

The present policy requires a mandatory two-month gap between exit and re-entry for tourist visas. Government had plans to change this rule as well.

However, the long term business visa will be available to regular visitors for only a three month stay in the first instance.

Last year, India attracted only 68,000 of these. Despite China being India’s largest trade partner, Chinese visitors to India in fact make up less than 2 per cent of the total number of foreign visitors to the country.

In 2007, 4,62,450 Indians visited China, which according to China National Tourism Administration figures, is several times the number of Chinese who travelled to India.

It will gradually improve as currently China-India relationships are also improving

Even though the photo collections are only about cr@p, still i see their sane minds here in the link you have provided... Which you guys dont bother to read..

白_马_非_马 (on Tianya) & 君子坦蛋蛋 (on LiuLiu):

I just want to say, there are a lot of places in China that are just the same. Don’t use the same air of superiority that Hong Kong and Taiwan people have when they look at mainlanders to look at India. I don’t like it.

不是一般人:

India is a democratic country with down to earth people.

The many dead animals above would have long ago been taken away by unscrupulous peddlers to be sold as food in China.

天下第一:

My God! Bodies can be seen so easily in the river! The Lou zhu was even able to take photos! It’s hard to imagine how calmly the Indians face death!

禁止登录:

Bodies floating in Chinese rivers aren’t unheard of (drowning victims, people who have fallen in, those who kill themselves, can be found anywhere). In recent years, changes have been widespread and only after they have finished will this situation change.

As for going swimming amongst dead bodies, people from different perspectives have different thinking, just like how the Chinese can’t understand how the Africans eat mice, and the Africans can’t see how the Chinese eat frogs.

騎豬趕驢:

India is so dry, you really think people want to live like that?

[You don't think] they don’t want to live well? Don’t want to be like us and drink water from a faucet? To bathe in and drink clean water?

We can’t look at them in that way, they live like that because they have no other choice.
