Dr V K Saraswat, top scientist of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said here that India is planning to develop an anti-missile shield against any conventional or nuclear attack. The missile shield will have highly sensitive radars to track the incoming missiles, besides an interceptor that can destroy it, said Dr Saraswat.

He added that the guidance system in the shield would ensure that the two missiles collide within a matter of seconds, thereby saving vital targets from destruction. The missile is absolutely imperative for India to protect populated metros and vital installations like nuclear power stations and oil wells, said Dr Saraswat.

. .
we already tested this system in 2006

There are two types of missiles in this system they were tested separately. One is AAD this is exo atmosphere interceptor (above 80km) tested in 2006, and other is PAD this is endo atmosphere interceptor (40-60 km) which was tested in 2007. These two will be tested together in September to achieve maximum kill probability.

.
So the one that was tested in 2006 in an anti intercontinental ballastic missile system?

you have enemies accross continents?

AAD and PAD are primarily meant for IRBM category not ICBM
