India to continue trailing Bangladesh's per capita income over next 6 years: IMF data

India does not have a security problem with Bangladesh. I meant Indian border dispute and larger geo political tussle with China earlier. All this rant about 'minority abuse' in this topic of macro economics is just rant :pop:
India doesn’t have a security problem with Bangladesh, really?

Every single diplomat that visits BD witters on about security and paranoia about Chinese influence on BD!

Nope. Bangladesh cannot do any real harm to India. Vying for influence in Bangladesh to compete with China does not mean that India has a security problem with Bangladesh. Really!

So India won’t object if China works on the teesta fortification?

And continues to buy arms from China?

Bangladesh buying arms from China is not a big deal at all. Bangladesh and India do not have any serious issues to fight over.

Teesta or whatever will just be dealt with diplomatically. It will not impact long term trade or relations between the two countries.

Bangladesh definitely has no desire to piss around with India.

We don’t even mind the occasional patronising from the dadas! If that keeps them off the opium of the masses….

We are desperate to uplift our people.

I wish I could say the same for the current Indian government!

India also does not seek any conflict with Bangladesh. There is a good relationship with the current administrations in India and Bangladesh.

Modi and his masters try hard to rile up Bangladeshis.

Fortunately, our PM is as sober as a lark.

Even when the Mullahs are triggered - she manages to put them in the box.

I confidently say India enjoys no goodwill from her or the common folk.

She just tolerates the Hinduvta mob for the sake of her people.

Long May it continue !

I can confidently say that her actions matter more than her good will. Long may she continue on her current path :agree:

. .
On that we can agree.

And a good way to end this debate.

Before we finish, I'd just like to apprise our Indian friend about what Indian Minister of State for Statistics reported about Bangladesh vs. India GDP growth rates. Something to take away and chew the cud on, maybe....

Bangladesh's economic growth is indeed inflationary. If you continue to compare with India and like to brag at least compare the real GDP growth rates. You like it or not, Bangladesh has an affordablility problem. Your ultra national chest thumping will not change that.

Answer is given here (Mr. Minister is very apologetic it seems, to report bad news to Indian veteran chest-thumpers),

And talking about Bangladesh inflation, here is some taste of Indian inflation. Thanks to Adani - a Modi pal, who is minting money on the backs of the Indian consumer.

Bangladesh inflation rate is nowhere as bad as that of India.

We don't have to go anywhere. Bangladesh's PPP per capita is still much lower than that of India's.

He, however, says people need to be more guarded in reaching conclusions on whether Bangladesh has become richer than India in terms of income per capita.

"The answer is yes if you compare GDP per capita in current US dollars as reported in the IMF's report."

"The conclusion will be very different when you compare nominal GDP per capita in US dollars adjusted for differences in purchasing power of national currencies."

Purchasing Power Parity (PPP)-based GDP is calculated by dividing nominal GDP by the PPP exchange rate. The latter reflects the purchasing power of the national currency relative to that of the US dollar in the US.

Bangladesh's PPP exchange rate is Tk 33 per USD in 2021 compared to India's 22 rupees. This means it takes Tk 33 to buy in Bangladesh what one American greenback can fetch in the US.

The same basket costs 22 rupees in India. Thus, the purchasing power of the Indian currency is 33 per cent higher than the purchasing power of the taka.

Citing IMF's report, Hussain said based on the PPP exchange rates, per capita GDP in India in 2021 is $7,319, which is 27 per cent higher than Bangladesh's $5,733.

True that.

India has 20% higher per capita PPP.

BD should target to close this gap in 10-15 years.

Like I say all healthy competition.

Trend is Bangladesh will catch up rather quickly.

Every country gives it’s interests it’s priority, India is no different. Here the main security concern for India itself is China, and not Bangladesh.
