Well I do not know about the source, but in Ladhak only the forward post hast been dismantlement which was put 300 m away from chinese.

Both the aircrafts are separate machines for separate tasks. Cancelling such a deal for F- 35'S wouldn't make any logic

Wouldn't it be another 4th gen even if canceled? Or else why even have the development of PAK FA. F-35 is about as good and has more options.

Though I will say this, with that amount of money you won't have even half the number of the Rafale in F-35s.
