India to arm Afghan Army to take on Pak after Torkham incident?

ISLAMABAD : Indian war veterans and strategic analysts have said India should supply heavy military equipment to the Afghan armed forces, including tanks and field artillery.

In an Op-Ed published in New Indian Express newspaper, Maj. Gen. (Retd) G D Bakhshi, said ” Rapidly do capacity building of the Afghan army, so that it has a military edge over the Taliban and can defend its territory against Pakistan’s incursions.”

The Retired Indian Army General further added that India should “Complete the Chabahar-Zaranj-Delaram road and beltway via Iran. Till then, supply tanks, artillery guns, attack helicopters and trainer jets via Russia.”

“Once the Chabahar beltway opens up, it can supply large numbers of T-54/T-55 tanks and 105 mm field guns lying in our depot stocks and salvage yards,” Gen. Bakhshi added.

The Op-Ed by Gen. Bakhshi was published days after a bloody clash erupted among the Afghan and Pakistani forces in Torkham over the construction of border gate by the Pakistani forces.

Harshly criticizing the Pakistani step to seal the Durand Line which has not been accepted as formal border line by Afghanistan, Gen. Bakhshi raised the issue of the Afghan militant groups sanctuaries in Pakistan, including the Taliban group leadership.

Pakistan insists that the step to construct gates along the crossings and fencing the Durand Line is an attempt by the country’s security forces to prevent the movement of the terrorists.

However, the Afghan officials insist on a regional fight against the terrorist groups, including the steps to be taken against the leadership councils of the Taliban and Haqqani Network.

This is not the first time that voices have been raised in India of equipping Afghan Army. In the Afghanistan – India strategic Partnership agreement of 2011, equipping and training of Afghan National Security Forces ANSF was included.

The supply of 4 Military Attack Mi -25 Helicopters from India to Afghanistan is the manifestation of the same ideology which is being developed in the Indian Military and Strategic circles.

India has already helped Afghanistan in acquiring 10,000 Ak-47 Assault Rifles Kalashankovs from Russia in order to boost the ANSF counter insurgency capability.

India is already training over 1000 officers of ANSF annually in the Indian Military and Intelligence Academies and now the strategists are convincing the government that time is ripe for equipping the Indian trained Afghan Army officers against Pakistan on the western front.

The recent incidence at Torkham border over the dispute of constructing gate within Pakistan’s own territory depicts the changing mindset of the Indian trained Afghan Army officers who resorted to brutal firing at Pakistan Army at the borders.

India feeling frustrated after being left out from the Quadrilateral Contact Group ( QCG ) and Afghanistan being frustrated after losing over 5,000 Afghan Army soldiers at the hands of Afghan Taliban in a single year are resorting to such acts of desperation in order to hide their failures.

Strategic analysts in Pakistan are observing the National Directorate of Security NDS and Indian Research and Analysis Wing RAW collaboration now transforming into an open military alliance in the name of countering terrorism in the region.

As Kraitcorp said : Pakistan should not be worried. We are here to help Afghanistan grow as a prosperous nation and enable it to take out rouge jihadi elements supporting terrorism in the AF-PAK region. We are inclined to push all those good terrorist to Pakistan and take out the bad ones.

Pakistan should also help Afghans in enjoying Afghanistan new prosperity through Indian investments by pushing all the migrants across the border. I am looking forward to see Indian's economy collapsing in an attempt to bring prosperity in Afghanistan :dirol:

Af-India romance will soon be over as Af has a history of infidelity:cheers:

Mate, did u say quicker ?

This below Towed Arty demonstration is comparable with SP Gun deployment. Count the minutes of Towed Rapid Deployment.

Get IN, FIRE, Get OUT.

Secondly,

Nothing beats quicker deployment than air lifting of 105mm Guns by Helicopter and deploying them. No vehicle can beat that.

Thirdly,

In Afghanistan Terrain, Armoured forces can be easily ambushed. Its best to use air mobile forces.

Fourthly, Its a mountainous terrain, you may need to deploy artillery on peaks. SP Guns cannot climb peaks but Helis can drop artillery on peaks.

The idea is not to use anything against western border. Keep the western border conflict under control. Fighting on two or more fronts is never a good strategy.
This is a demo of Caeser 155mm Self propelled gun and not SH-1 however both are truck mounted thus that is a similarity they share. A vehicle with true off road performance is great for such region.

Americans have so far spend 65 Billions $ on Afghan Army but results are zero ..

65 billion. That is such a huge figure.
Can you be specific on what did they spent 65 billion on.
As far as i know that figure will buy you amazing equipments available in the world right now.

.
And what a grand waste of money that will be, just ask Uncle Sam :lol::lol:

Uncle Sam is unhappy about money given to Pakistan, not what was spent in Afghanistan. The general conclusion is that the aid given to Pakistan was misused and neutralized large parts of the assistance provided to Afghanistan. As long as India doesn't make that same mistake of giving aid to Pakistan, the two situations cannot be compared

There is a saying ''Black clouds have silver/gold linings''....I would agree with Indian strategic planners to supply Afghanistan with top class weapons and tanks....
This would be a good opportunity for Pakistan Armed Forces to check their battle prep. in case of war with India.....as the Afghan Army would be trained by Indians and would have Indian weapons i.e we could be simulating a war with India which cannot be simulated much better by any other means or exercises...
So we will know how to retaliate to their attacks much better...I think Indian war planners should really pay attention to their decisions...First they are developing a port of Pakistan's best Ally, thinking they are damaging Pakistan's Port....Second they are training Pakistan Armed Forces, thinking they are destroying Pakistan

.
The ANA is so corrupt a lot of those hypothetical jam prone weapons would end up in Taleban hands after a small bribe sum. Then they'd be used on pro indian stooges in Kabul green zone so I encourage the Indians to try it and see what will happen first hand. Honest!

.
Hey,
Basically India is using Afghanistan as a proxy against Pakistan to keep PA busy on the western front. India itself cannot fight a war with Pakistan directly so as per policy of her terrorist and babboon NSA, it will fund and equip ANA. While NDS suffering from chronic anti-Pakistanism, is more than willing to cooperate with India. In all my analyses, the only viable solution for Pakistan is not only to fence the border and install the gates but also to support Afghan talibans, we do not need to fear our enemies and we should not accept any dictation from them. Take our friends and allies into confidence and secure their support on diplomatic and other levels. We don't need to fight idiots of ANA.

all IGNORED but u said "India itself cannot fight a war with Pakistan".... I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT MAKES YOU EVEN HAVE A SLIGHT THOUGHT ABOUT SUCH THINGS..YOU CAN NOT WIN ANY WAR AGAINST INDIA , YOU ARE TOO WEAK...WE HAVE DEFEATED YOU ALL THE TIMES BUT IT SEEMS YOU HAVE JUST CAME OUT OF AN EGG SHALE AND HAVE NOT READ YOUR HISTORY...And we are not the India you had faced decades ago, today will crush you like a mosquito...!

I understand your logic but mate you are not the one who's calling the shots....the ring leader in this Indo-Afghan circus is Ajit Doval. He has a different mentality.
I think you guys have overestimated the capabilities of Ajit Doval...Do you think an individual has the capacity to change a countries foreign policy?? There is no question of our boots on foreign land unless it is backed by UN. We have learned our lesson and that too hard way in Sri Lanka....Similarly there is no question of providing heavy weight weapons to AF...and for a plane reason...we simply can't afford it...

do you think 5 Indians consulates in a small war torn country and millions of dollars of investment in making dams and other infrastructure is just on humanitarian basis
Great atleast we are now at 5 from 14-16 of what we were being accused of...Well it is always not black and white...engagements with nations are not single dimensional...they are multi-dimensional and complex...so yes there are lot of projects on humanitarian grounds and similarly there are lot of projects which business in mind...when we build chabahar, roads in AF then it is all with the eye on securing a route to central Asia...however when we build Parliament/Dams then they are humanitarian efforts...which will help improve our image and eventually helps in building more amicable relations with Afghans and their country and finally create more conducive environment for business...so a win win ...

I mean there many African countries even more deserving than Afghanistan but India does not show even 10% of the interest and India does not even share a single border with Afghanistan.
As mentioned above..African countries are not going to give us access to central asia...having said that we have enough humanitarian engagements with them as well...and again that is a mix...China and India are competing a lot there for the resources as well...

That's not how baniyas do business sir...they look for their interests and profits.

Terming an entire country which is as diverse as India as Baniya don't suit you...try not to bring in such lame generalizations...b/w who is not looking into interests and profits?? Is China involved in CPEC due to humanitarian effort or profits??

Though I'm pretty sure that no amount of investment on ANA can make it strong enough even to take care of its boundaries and a credible force against Talibans. ANA is an undisciplined, unorganised force with no professionalism and traditions. It is more like a junta of weed smoking part time criminals unlike IA or PA.

Well no denying the fact...however it is actually in Pakistan interests that they are somewhat stable...the more AF is unstable the more headache for Pak...

PA already has a good offroad tracked SP, M-109.

Many countries in the world have no armed fources. Its better Afghanistan be one of them.

There was agreement between United States and Iceland that the US would provide defence to latter.

It is more appropriate that Afghanistan have such kind of arrangements and focus on other sectors, till there is suitable time to develop its own force.

.
Yes it would be called playing the "Phapha Kutni" and it would be upto the genius of ISI to put forward the groups for agitating India earlier...in which case India would be funding and arming the very same people who would come to haunt it later..

AFAIK Afghanistan and India have more cultural and historic relations than Africa .
We will train them and enable them to secure their democracy .

On topic :GoI formulates their foreign policy on the basis current political situation.
almost all weapons will be sold by the Norther Alliance thugs.. the equipment will end up in Peshawar Bara market..

What if we supply heavy weaponry? What about those four helis ?
