Well it's forever in the testing n development phase, ensures the DRDO will be funded for the next 30 years then when the tech goes obsolete, start a new project and dismantle the old, lose all the skillet gained. That's India for you and then the military will reject it and buy foreign, if they could buy nukes, I am pretty sure there wouldn't be agni etc. Lol
You could be wrong. I am not sure there will even be an "India" at that time.

If these aren't gonna carry any payload, then what are their purpose?

This was NOT a SCRAMjet based weapon, it was based on RAMjet.

Okay. So basic of basics first.

For SCRAMjets, there are three types of experimental vehicles.

1. Ground tests (like Starry Sky 2 recently did in a wind tunnel in China, for 600 odd seconds or so)

2. Flight Tests with No net thrust from SCRAM-Jet ( you know, not enough thrust to counteract the drag itself) -- these tests typically are called "captive tests" and something else, mostly a rocket engine maintains the required speed. This was Kholod test. A rocket propelled the vehicle to required velocity and maintained it. Test was only to verify supersonic combustion.

3. Flight Tests with a Net Thrust from SCRAM-jet. This NEVER happened till 2004. 2004s Hyper-X test also called X-43 was the FIRST such test in the world. It produced a net thurst.


India's test was an "autonomous" flight, it was net thrust SCRAM-jet test. So it is ATLEAST equivalent to 2004, most likely it is similar to 2011 test of USA called X-51 waverider.



Actually India did a Koholod type test in 2016. ISRO conducted a test using a sounding rocket.

Hope it educates you about what is what. There was NO SCRAM-jet test flight in 80s. There was NO net thurst SCRAM-jet test flight in 90s.

BTW, from the looks of it, Indian vehicle looks more like US wave rider and Russian vehicle than X-43.

At "worst", India got some help from Russia. Its not a bad things for India.

May I ask what is the purpose of Starry Sky 2 in China? It does not carry any warhead or payload too.
May I also ask what is the purpose of X-51 in USA too? It also did not carry any payload.

China current hyper-sonic is too advanced. Chinese one goes a completely different technology route, so nothing to compare with India backward so called hyper-sonic ones, which is technology in 80s, 90.

Once more, there was NO SCRAMjet engine flying in 80s.
And in 90s there was still NO SCRAMjet engine producing enough thurst to fly a vehicle on its own. That was NO net thurst.

It does not matter. Even if India shares the entire dataset and every last detail of the test, it will be useless for Pakistan. Why? Because there is nothing you can build using it. You don't have the required infra or capital to build weapon using those details.

The best you can do is to buy an export version from China, when it becomes available.

Let me put it in this way, right now even China cann't built the scramjet based missile. because its under research everywhere. So forget it.

BTW, you have not built MIRV, the RV part of MIRV is simply not there.
Also, JF-17 is purely a Chinese plane. So each time a new block comes, it is developed in China.

Also, none of these are relevant for building scramjet based missile. Its a totally different beast.
