India Tests 'Akash Prime' Missile, Destroys Aerial Target

New Delhi:
A new version of the Akash Missile - 'Akash Prime' was successfully tested from the Integrated Test Range at Odisha's Chandipur on Monday at around 4:30 pm. The missile intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking enemy aircraft, in its first flight test after improvements.

In comparison to the existing Akash System, Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active Radio Frequency seeker for improved accuracy, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said in news release.

Other improvements also ensure more reliable performance under a low-temperature environment at higher altitudes. A modified ground system of the existing Akash weapon system was used for the flight test. The range stations at the test site including radars, Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS) and telemetry stations monitored the missile trajectory and flight parameters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) and industry for the successful trials of Akash Prime Missile. He said that the successful flight test proves the competence of DRDO in the design and development of world-class Missile systems.

DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy said that the Akash Prime system will boost the confidence of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

day 2 ...NDTV reports ..a Su-30 was accidently shot down
Pakistan on its own can barely trouble India.

i love indian denials... they live in la la land

Very little is known about this minor skirmish which does not warrant such an arms race escalation.
Minor skirmish it was but with big connotations and lessons. This skirmish stirred the Indian Babudom famous for going slow on everything. It is now taking decisions a little faster.

India had determined the Chinese threats about a decade back when the infrastructure development was given a new push. Chinese being what they are objected to it without explaining the reasons for development of border infra on their side.

I think that one reason for this deployment is to force India on counter-deployment and impose a cost.
Imposing cost by deployment can work if the cost is very high. Just deployment of forces can be matched by India very easily and wouldn’t have a crippling affect on the economy.

In this entire game, one point is being missed by quite a lot of observers. Which is quest for self reliance in defence equipment. This test is one step in that direction. Self reliance would make things cheaper to procure and maintain in the longer run.

ask that big-mouthed shah of gujarat. he is the one who invited them.
Chinese infra on the borders hasn’t come up overnight after the speech by Shah. Chinese have been into it for more than a decade. Previous regimes in India did realise the threat but didn’t give it the push that was required.
Keeping quite and doing nothing was the forte of previous dispensations in Delhi. Did that help? Chinese still built a formidable infra all along the border.

The current Indian government has said and is doing what should have been done long back.

Indeed.

India has a historical record of initiating arms race in the region.

Not actually, we have china at east border and we do require minimum determine and arms so that will never try to do any adventure.

If someone ask, then please ask to China not doing arm race.

Our armed forces are decades behind our economic might and foreign interest, so level up to the acceptable standard is an arms race with INDIA? I guess the world certainly revolves around India then.

I said, that is one of the reasons/actions. There would possibly be many more.

The real reason, in my view, for whole of this current crises, is not that desolate Aksai Chin area, per se, or for that matter the border dispute. It is the apparent intent of India to join US, in containing and confronting China. This border skirmish was merely an intentional early warning signal to India, to refrain from, what they intend. That is it. China also gave such similar small signals, before the 1962 war, which India ignored, rather made fun of. Now, the same process has started, some kind of déjà vu.

I don't know how to answer your post. Because if I wrote reality, you and others will call me an Indian and that's insulting. Open debate should be allowed with getting personal.

India wants to become a super power and with the US / QUAD, it's the immediate party to counter China first, from land as well as from the seas. So it's natural they are going to build and adopt various weapons to get to their national goal. I think Pakistan needs to work on it's economy, grow, get more funding and start these sensitive tech projects too.

With a crippling economy......how else would you counter the 3rd largest economy of the world? I read these amazing posts but the reality is much different. You shouldn't accept it if you got into a situation where you could do something. That only happens with trade. And frankly speaking, with every passing day, the trade spectrum is getting competitive and saturated as other nation's have started to build and export stuff in large quantities. To grow militarily, you need to first grow your economy and get to a better GDP where you can afford to spend on military more.

supa powa shit again? it's not even canistered, what a junk.

feed your mouth first then talking about supa powa, third largest economy? really? with largest poverty starving people

Can please suggest the same to Pakistani friends?

The same situation with india and Pakistan should not feel that we are doing arm race.

China is a powerful country no doubts.
But presuming that China would always have an upper hand is definitely doubtful.

1962 and today are different times with different capabilities and attitudes. Déjà vu may be in store for the other party this time. Who knows?

I merely gave an objective assessment, as I view it, in the light of my readings on the history of evolution of Sino-Indian conflict. Otherwise, a confrontation, between China and India, goes in favor of Pakistan.

Otherwise, a confrontation, between China and India
Full fledged one is unlikely.

My take is that this arms race is not good for Pakistan. Whatever India buys/procures works for Pakistan too. The presumption that Indian focus only on Chinese border would whittle away its forces along Pakistan border is unlikely to happen. All strategic procurements would work for any theatre.

Yes, Tactical capabilities would need to be reworked considering terrain etc. How much would that benefit Pakistan? May not be significant.

Damn. Now india will have another missile to hit their own helicopters in case of a skirmish with Pakistan.

Yes.... I guess a cunning atheist communist would prove to be a better daddy.....let's embrace our new daddy.
why do you, the people of PDF, have this daddy complex? aren't you literate enough to find other ways to insult Pakistan?

and this obsession with China being atheist flies in the face of facts, there is more religion in China than entire EU, UK and USA combined. just because india-Persia-made fassad that passes for mazhahib is outlawed?

First look at the post to which I replied, to provide a just opinion.....

I think there is a difference in having more religion vs. having freedom to practice them.....now, aren't you literate enough to find out the level of religious freedom in China?
