Indian jets have been testing Pakistani defenses for some time. The latest violation occured this week. Pakistan jets were scrambled and the missiles put on alert. There is some indication that Pakistan has moved some of its forces to the Eastern front but this has been veciferously denied by the US Administration. The denials are meant for US domestic consumption and mean little to the situation in Iraq.
“We have to focus on our problems and we don’t want to go into war. But if the war is thrust on us, we will stand united like a respectful nation,” he added.
“Pakistan is not defensive. The nation, the army and the political leadership is united and we can defend our national sovereignty.” Government will not allow foreign investigators to interrogate militants detained over last month’s attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai, Gillani said.
“I want to assure you that when I met the British prime minister yesterday, he asked if … we would allow them to investigate those people. I said ‘we won’t allow it’,” he said.
“It is our country and our laws will be implemented. We’ll follow our laws.” Prime Minister Gillani condemned terrorism and categorically stated that the territory of Pakistan will never be allowed to be used for terrorist activities. - Online/APP
The shoe incident is minor but is a symbol of the end of the Bush era. Many call it apt that the two symbols that remain seered into the mindsminds of the media savvy world population is one which proclaimed “Mission Accomplished” and the other “The Show shower”. The narrative in the middle will also remind the world of Shock and Awe, Abu Ghraib and Gitmo. For many in South Asia the Fourth Battle of Panipat has begun.
India has started the fourth Indo-Pakistan war already. It is a war like no other before it. This is a war that Pakistan alone can win; all others can lose although in different ways. India is cautiously climbing the escalation ladder in the hope that it can avoid an all out nuclear war. It is India’s need to escalate with caution that guarantees freedom of action to those fighting asymmetrical war against India in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has to remain demonstrably prepared for the worst thus reinforcing the freedom of action to the resistance in Jammu and Kashmir. There will indeed be skirmishes between India and Pakistan; the sound of the weak knees of the rulers knocking would be loud for all to hear. There is no need to remove this pathetic lot. Let them die of fear - fear of India, fear of America, fear of the ‘militants’, fear of the people who elected them, fear of the armed forces, fear of the lawyers. Let them and their masters die a death by a thousands cuts. Usman Khalid: The Director of London Institute of South Asia
At the behest of his paymasters, Mr. Hussain Haqqani orchestrated the UN sanctions against the so called Lashkar proxy called Jamad Ud Dawa. Hollow UN “victory”–the agony of permanent Indian defeat . Never mind that the Jamad ud Dawa runs hospitals and day care centers that were shut down by the ZardariGovernment this week to “comply with US resolutions (no Indian demands or US diktats). The Zardari Government thinks low of the IQ of the Pakistani people. The PPP Government thinks that it has really fooled the Pakistanis into believing that this was the handiwork of the UN and not the US, India or the PPPP. One only has to read the Urdu press, or the statements of the people on the street in Islamabad and Karachi to see the loathing for Mr. 10%.
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani on Monday made it clear that no more airspace violations from India would be tolerated.
The assertion was made at a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Yousuf Raza Gillani held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. The meeting was also attended Mehmud Ali Durrani and others.
Sources said that President Zardari reiterated that no compromise would be made on national security, adding national integrity remains top priority for the government. He hoped that India would not indulged again in airspace violations and would respect Pakistan borders. The Statesman. Pakistan
Today the Indian media stands exposed. The vitriol is there for all to see. The Indian politicians have no clothes. Their hatred is exhibited for all to see. Many in India–even the elite doves have never actually accepted the existence of Pakistan. Even Yogi Sikand could not ersist venting his bigotry towards Pakistan.
all of the blame for the Partition now lies with the Muslim ideologues who hated Hindus and thus wanted a separate nation…never mind the historical fact that it was Jinnah, the leader of the Muslims of India who tried up to the bitter end to ensure fair representation for the Muslim minority in a post-independence Hindu-dominated India, and kept getting rebutted on this point by both Jawaharlal Nehru and Mohandas Gandhi of the Indian National Congress, which is what finally drove him to insist on a separate homeland for Muslims. All that history falls by the wayside in this specious and ultimately racist account of Partition and the recourse to the old two-nation theory as an explanation for “Muslim Pakistan” to want to destabilize “Hindu” India (never mind that India has by far the larger, better-trained army, a more advanced nuclear arsenal, and control of disputed Kashmir and of the River Indus which controls the water-supply of Pakistani rivers leaving it at the mercy of India). Whatever happened to India as “the developing world’s most successful experiment in plural, large-scale political collaboration” if it is seen as a “Hindu” nation with all of the attendant chauvinism that label implies? Dr. Fawzia Khan
If the Indian narrative is to be believed, this was the work of the Lashkar e Tayaba’s 10 terrorists who had to go to Mumbai to find Americans to kill. If the Indian narrative is it be believed, the Lashkar e Tayaba terrorists traveled 12 hours to get to Mumbai were clean shaved (all Lashkar e Tayaba people have beards), sore Hindus symbols of worship (strings on the arms) and knew how to get into the Taj and Oberoi Hotel through the pantry and kitchen (exactly knowing the weaknesses in the hotels). Pretty good guesswork for FOBs (fresh off the boat) terrorists who even surprised Ratan Tata into saying that this was unbelievable (in so many words).
PML-Q central leader Senator Mohammed Ali Durrani has demanded the government raise the issue of violation of air space by the Indian fighter jets at the United Nations forum. He also stressed an end to the violation of the country’s borders by the foreign forces from the eastern as well as the western fronts.
The PML-Q leader stated this while addressing a press conference in Lahore after a period of some 9 months. Speaking on the occasion, Ali Durrani said by raising the issue of Mumbai incident in the UN and defaming Pakistan, India had violated the Simla Agreement.
He said the violation of air space by India was a matter of concern but government should act wisely over the issue. He said rather than acting as a spokesperson for India by terming the violation a technical default, the rulers should raise the issue in UN.
He said the living nations know how to protect their borders and the protection of the borders starts from the very first inch of the country’s territory. He said the flights of Indian jets over the national territory, whether it was due to technical or any non-technical reason, could never be accepted.
Ali Durrani said the current situation called for unity by the nation at all fronts and suggested that all the political leaders of the country should join hands on December 25, the birthday of Quaid e Azam and celebrate the National Solidarity Day. He added the Indian allegation involving Pakistan in the Mumbai carnage were baseless.
He said like the Samjhota Express and attack on the Indian Parliament, the incidents would have a certain nexus to India as time would prove it. He said linking the incidents with Pakistan would only fan the flames of tension between the two countries which the region can not afford. Paying tribute to media, he said it must be credited for playing a leading role in defending the country and countering the Indian propaganda in a very effective manner.
To a question, he said the drone attacks in the western part of the country were also the violation of the country’s territories and they must be stopped.
To a similar query about the NATO raids during the PML-Q tenure, he said there was not any agreement with the allies that they were free to raid the Pakistani territories. When asked to comment over the idea of Muslim Leagues’ unification, he said the workers in most of the parts of the country wanted PMLs to united and in the capacity of party, he had conveyed the message to the party leaders. Airspace violations must be raised in UN: Durrani Tuesday, December 16, 2008, By Our Correspondent, LAHORE
So far so good. If we stick with the Indian narrative, the Lashkarknow what to do. It kept 1200 armed and trained Indian Army men and its most elite troops the MARCOS and the Black Cat commandos at bay for 60 hours. 12000 against 10. Even the Israeli commandos could not dislodge the deeply entrenched terrorists.
What message does this send to the terrorists? The message sent is that its 10 vs 1200 and that a dozen terrorists can bring the nuclear armed neighbors to war.
The Pentagon officials broadly described the activity as checking on the status of crew, fighter jets and weapons that were available. The extent of the reported preparation was not immediately known.
The report, however, indicates that the Bush administration took the possibility of an India-Pakistan war over the Mumbai terror attacks much more seriously than they publicly acknowledge.
US Secretary of State CondoleezzaRice and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen visited both India and Pakistan right after the attacks, apparently to ease tensions between the neighbours.
On their return to Washington, both officials said they saw no indication that either India or Pakistan were preparing for a war.
But in an interview to CNBC on Friday, Ms Rice said that while in New Delhi she urged Indian leaders not to take actions that could destabilise the region.
“Anything that, in fact, would make the situation worse or might introduce unintended consequences is not going to be good for the stability of the region,” said Ms Rice. “It isn’t going to address what needs to be done, and that was also my message to India.”
The statement confirms that the US not only worried about the possibility of the Mumbaiattacks leading to a war but also discussed it withIndian and Pakistani leaders, urging both to show restraint. Dawn. ‘India was ready for air strike’ By Our Correspondent
Obama: Empathy & strategic partnership with Pakistan & regional solutions . The US and international media is reporting that the Nuclear armed neighbors came close to all out war. There are reports that the Indian Air Force was placed on full alert and its planes at Halwar, Adampur, Jamnagar etc were ready for a strike on Pakistan. What is surprising that the actual “alert” to the Indian Air Force was sent out not on 26/11 (as the Indians want to call it) but a week before. This is very strange behaviour indeed.
The beneficiaries of the end to peace are the extremists on both sides of the border. The losers are the doves. So what is to stop them from carrying out the next attack and the one after that. How much can they get away with? What is the tolerance level in New Delhi and Islamabad. Unless the root causes of terror are addressed, South Asia and the world will remain on edge.
It is pedagogical to investigate the beneficiaries of the end of peace. Certainly it was not the cricket players. However there is much discussion of the criminal element in this attack and the role of the Indian mafia and the Mumbai bookies who may have been losing money.
Obama: Empathy & strategic partnership with Pakistan & regional solutions . Obama’s advisor Brude Riedel is right. Unless Kashmir is resolved there will not be any peace in Afghanistan. Unless Pakistan’s Eastern border is secured, there will be perpetual war in Afghanistan.
If the Pakistani narrative is to be believed, the Mumbai terror was an inside job carried out by the Hindu extremists who wanted to put the pressure on Pakistan and hoped for a backlash agasint Muslims all across India. This backlash would have propelled the BJP and associated Hinduist parties in the coming General elections and placed Mr. Modi as the next Indian Prime Minister. The world was shocked to see the incompetence of the Indian armed forces–most specifically the total ineptitude of the elite Indian commandos. This does not bode well for the terrorists on all sides. If history is any indication, from Shivaji to the RAW terror in Karachi’ Bori Bazar to the bombing of the Marriot Hotel. Unless Kashmir, Sir Creek, Siachin, Kargil are resolved, the terror will continue and some hot headed idiot will push the nuclear button.
What message does it send to the Indian terrorists whose identities have so far been kept hidden from the world? 10 against 1200? A dozen people can bring the neighbors to war.
The extremistson both sides of the border got what they wanted–nuclear confrontation and an end to the peace negotiations that was mushrooming across the Radcliff Line. It is interesting to note the glee at which most Indians view the terror attacks in Pakistan. There was no public Indian condemnation of the attack on the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad. In a non-statistical sample, the comments on this and other sites show abject Indian jubilation each time there is a terror attack on Pakistan. Many Indians naively believe that if the Taliban control Pakistani territory it is to India’s benefit. What is horrific about the culture of hate is that many Indians are happy about a terror attack in Pakistan but expect a world of sympathy when attacked. What is absolutely amazing is that Indians feel that the end of Pakistan will somehow be good for India. There is total inability to see beyond their nose. Pakistan is a buffer for India and Indians against the so called extremist being spawned by the war in Afghanistan. Without a buffer, the same extremists would be working their way past Panipat to Delhi.
Many Pakistanis were shocked to see how much the Indians hate Paksitan and Pakistanis. The evidence is not in, but the Indian media was broadcasting hate messages. The indictments have not been made but the threats were being showered. The conviction has not happened but the the “biggest democracy” in the world was quick to assign blame and hide evidence.
