What's new

India test fires nuclear capable AGNI 2 missile successfully today!!!

. .
All new developments and even new missiles are tested by the name of Agni 2.

If they are saying that an Agni 2 is being launched, it is almost guaranteed that its something new.

I have to agree. Earlier it used to be Prithvi.

. . .
After the Sagarika surprise, its fair to assume there is more to these ''routine tests'' of old missiles than whats mentioned in the press release.

Since we have to inform our neighbor everytime we fire a ballistic missile, we have no choice but to ''test old missiles''.

Agni 2 needs to be tested as it holds the manoeverable RV with fins and a liquid fuel engine of its own.....thats something none of indian missiles have.....apperantly....

The liquid fuel engine is nothing but the Post Separation Attitude Correction system, found on all modern ballistic missiles. All Agnis have it IMO, just like Pakistan's Shaheen series and Ghauri.

How?
Only agni 2 has engine and fins fitted with RV
How other RVs do this without fins and engine....?

Fins on ReV are not necessary at all, take a look at DF-21 or any other modern BM. The modern approach is use of thrusters and gimballed liquid motors. Those fins help in correcting trajectory once the boost phase is terminated and the missile is about to exit atmosphere. IMO they are dispensed in space, because they would pose a huge hurdle in spinning the warhead for re-entry.

Agni-3 also has side thrusters, observed in a few close-up pictures.Without such systems, Agni-4 and 5 could never have achieved the accuracy they boast of now.

I guess you are confused because such info came to light about Agni-2 only. Truth is that it is present on all other missiles in the series.

I am quite surprised you noticed this. This has escaped attention of most people analyzing Agni 5.
Agni 4 was just a TD - technologies from which were used to make Agni 5.
Most people just assumed the accuracy increase was incremental where as it was a substantial leap from what Agni III could achieve.

The composite motors and some other techs were first tested on A 4

A 4 is also first Indian Missile with closed inter stage (and perhaps retro motor)

Agni-3 also has side thrusters

what side thrusters?

Of course, if there is no efficient correction system, the corrections generated by the laser ring gyro based INS wouldn't be of much use.

And The Pics and Video Arrived ::cheers:
