India swaps ice for rice in new bucket challenge

Who is wasting rice here ? You just donate a bucket of rice to the needy, take a pic and challenge your friends to do the same. In the process you raise awareness about ALS and the poor gets his food. Way better than stupid ice bucket challenge.

Way better? Then why take a picture at all? The ice water and similar gimmicks are there to add hilarity and comic relief to encourage others. A photo while giving charity of food is pretty pointless, apart from self-promotion, perhaps.

Doesn't the challenge works by providing you with a way out if you don't want to donate to charity? I mean, if you can perform the challenge within 24 hours, you don't have to donate. I know people (common men and women) performing the challenge (fun) and uploading videos on FB/Twitter (promotion) but no donations whatsoever. Where's charity in that? Of course there are people who do donate after performing the challenge but they are few.
Isn't actually donating food to the person in need, when challenged by someone, while also raising awareness about ALS a better deed? (Rhyme not intended)

Actually, most people are donating with or without the ice bucket.
