India Successfully Test Fires Dhanush Missile

India successfully test-fired nuclear weapons-capable Dhanush missile from a ship, off the Odisha coast on Thursday.

The ship-based missile was launched at 11.02 a.m. by personnel of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) from an Offshore Patrolling Vessel (OPV), which was deep inside the sea, for its full range of 350 km, according to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) missile scientists.

It was a perfect mission and the missile splashed down near the target point with high degree of accuracy, they said.

Dhanush, a manoeuvring missile is a naval variant of Prithvi-II, and can carry a nuclear payload of 500 kg.

It can target both land-based and sea-based targets. The missile has already been inducted into the armed services and the SFC personnel randomly picked up the missile from the production lot for Thursday’s trial, which was carried out as part of regular user training.

Dhanush was one of the five missiles developed by the DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme.

to me putting a liquid fuelled monster openly on ship is bit suicidal....

Too Big Missile for vessel.........Liquid fuel Can be Dangerous for ship.

It is not meant to be an operational missile-its just a test bed.If Indian navy wanted to put BMs on a ship,they would have gone for solid fueled,canisterized Shaurya missile (800-1900 km range)

It is operational, but is due to be replaced by the K-series of missiles soon.
These tests are for testing other developments as well as operational training.

Nope, all the liquid fuel missiles are already phased out from operational use. They are for jus testing purpose.

It's our tactical nuclear missile ... I wish if we can produce at least 4-6 SSGN . With at least some 50-60 danush or 100 nirbay ...

I know sometimes I go over board . All I wanted is to buy our navy few new toys. Single submarine with 100 or at least 80 nirbay or bromos would take out most of all strategic assert of small to medium sized country .

Long and never ending debate. .. will Danush be able to target the Aircraft Carrier and it's CBG with conventional warheads ?

Wouldnt a cruise missile be way better, you can carry way more and they are less prone to be brought down by AD?

Of course it will be a beast any nation don't want to mess around with. For power projection traditionally AC battle groups been used by US. Just to say that we are here and active . But with SSGN you don't have show off just saying we are there will send small countries into panic mode. I was very much impressed by US SSGN which fired barrage of 120+ Tomohawk cruise missiles during the early stages of war. Which alone devastated most of Lybian instalation .

The 1994 Nuclear Posture Review determined that the United States needed only 14 of its 18 SSBNs to meet the nation's strategic force needs. Therefore, the Navy decided to transform four Ohio-class submarines into conventional land attack . With 154 Cruise missiles from no where thus acting as an deterrent . Our Nirbay can be easily installed in Arihant class and making 1 or 3 SSGN as our first wave of attack. 1 ohio class can take out entire investment of PA / PN / PAF in first day of war .

Hope our MOD will consider SSGN . 2 for Andaman Nicobar and 1 for IoR . When we have Arihant , Chakra technology in our hand SSGN is very possible and affordable investment ...

I preferred Danush for taking our larger area . Danush is our hack we can modify to our needs . With high or low play load
