and not GAGAN. GAGAN uses already existing GPS signals.

Gagan is what you are searching for.

Its not Gagan, it is IRNSS. Gagan will be used by aircraft for navigation.

glonass military usage is more accurate then GPS..moreover china is also working on its own nav sat.

chinese havent completed their COMPASS yet!!!
But we havent started sending satellites for indigeneous navigational system yet!!!
Till we operationalise GLONASS will be of primese importance !!!
Maybe in future GLONASS and IRNSS can complement each other for india and russia !!!

nice to know two things:

1) Indian govt keeps a track of international events like iraq war and analysis of it. means there are think tanks still operating and rolling out studies
2) Indian govt actually acted and not sitting duck for a calamity to strike it

That is really a big deal. It will change the way of navigation and guidance for our submarines, missiles, aircrafts, tanks, soldiers everything.


Access to military grade signal of GLOCASS will help to refute GPS which is prone to jamming and denial by US. Also GLONASS and IRNSS can work together.

They have Beidou 1. Althought its a regional sytem, it covers a lot of areas.

They also have global system called Compass. Although its not complete yet.

You are behind. The Beidou 2 (or Compass) has recently completed regional coverage, and is on its way to achieve global coverage soon. 30% done!

The Beidou 1 is mostly a tech demonstration.
