If the protest was domestically funded by nationalists and educated people only reminding government of some hard risks of radiation leak and asking for written assurance and solution then I would rather appreciate the move. But unfortunately there is some foreign hand and money to stop this project just because it is a join venture with the Russians and to stop India progressing.
Before bringing the plant, proper survey is done, and permission is asked from the fisheries department and ecological department of the ministry of HRD and Animal husbandry and meteorological department.

You posted stuff & so the plant should stop ? I never claimed to be neutral on the plant (only on your religious scrap). I believe that you & your likes have no case & will jump from one hypothesis to other whether any of them are relevant or not. Such people, in my opinion are not deserving of a endless hearing & at some point will have to be dealt with. I believe the nuclear plant to be safe & that it needs to be made operational as soon as possible.

As for shutting my mouth & not wasting your time, anyone can decide for themselves based on the number & quality of posts sent in on this subject by each as to who is wasting time & who needs that advice more.

so u accept this plant also faces same dangers as plants across the world like NAtural Disasters, Terorist Attaks, Human error, Radiation leak possibilities.

So in safety aspects this plant is at least(or more) good then the others in the world.

Mate - Explain me this - how come the major protests started last year while the koodankulam project itself was conceived, started in 1980s and 1990s? Now the plant has been constructed ready to go - how come the question of cancer have come up in major way?

The protestors quote Fukushima as the reason for protests but do you know Kalpakkam was affected by Tsunami and about 100 people died not because of nuclear disaster but by natural effects of Tsunami in Kalpakkam. Why not take the example of Kalpakkam and not Fukushima?

You quote 1.2 million people's lives - How come 18 million population in Mumbai - just about 20 kms from Trombay and 9 million population in Chennai - away 70 kms from Kalpakkam is quiet and goes about the business? Are they less educated than your folks?

Trombay is not only susceptible to natural disasters but also to Military threats especially from Pakistan. But not much is heard from people of Mumbai.

As long as there are safe guards in the nuclear plant against Tsunami and other major disasters, the protestors should be satisfied. If you ask for 100% guarantee, then no one can give you that - man has always risks against the nature and have moved on to the top of the food chain. If he hadn't taken the risk, he would be still vying for space with all other animals.

there were protests when KKNP was planned in the late 80's but since then the media coverage and this kind of free internet were not available so it was easy for the govt to suppress the protesters whose voice is never heard to the outside world. but today the situation is completely different as you know.
would you risk your life and your families life for a purpose in which you dont have a role to play and you are still living the life of poor but it will directly benefit a person who is sitting some 700km away and the people who deny even drnking water to you??

I do not need to read more especially the post no 205 as it does not concern the people living outside the nuclear plant - I have the following questions

What did these uneducated fishermen find out in Koodankulam that millions of educated folks from Chennai and Mumbai failed to see in the atomic plants near their place nor Dr. Abdul Kalam or other experts failed to see? Why can't these fishermen see how Kalpakkam atomic plant had the same kind of Tsunami but survived without issues? Oil spill happens everywhere across the globe affecting the fishing. How come these fishermen do not protest the port in Tutucorin where oil-ladden ships berth? Bhopal incident happened due to Union Carbide. They live near SPIC chemical plant. How come this did not catch their eye?


Either these fishermen are operating with half-baked knowledge or being manipulated by vested interests feeding them with wrong information. Either way it is wrong.

1. the fishermen in these area are not un-educated. there are engineers and doctors.
2. the literacy rate in this region is way higher than the national literacy average and the states average.
3.Kalpakkam plan you are talkin about is a 250mw reactor and the KKNP is 6GW(6000mw) project. also the working principle and the fuels used are different.(in Kalpakam uranium is the starting agent but here Uranium is the primary fuel.)
4. for power shortage in TN there are two thermal projects in ennore that will be completed in mid 2013 which will generate 1.5GW. it is sufficient till the 6GW thermal plants gets commisioned.
5. People of Bombay took chances if something happens they are finished.but ourselves we dont want to take chances of our generations. already we are with enough cancer cases. atleast 1 to 2 deaths in KK dist everyday due to cancer.
