his is as stupid as saying China can influence US's policies by buying their treasury bonds.

ermmmmmmmmm that is not stupid, that is an actual fact.

China has uncle Sam by balls, if China was to stop buying the US treasury bonds it would result in another financial meltdown in US.

Come on, don't be naive here. China is on the same boat as US in this matter, if US goes down financially, it will drag China down alone with it at least to a certain extend. So it is not China's interest to see that happen, and has not other option to help US out. Also, where else can China invest its 3 trillion USD's foreign reserves. Just look at China Investment Corp's sovereignty fund of 300 billion USD from the foreign reserve. It can hardly find any suitable deals for its size.

Myth: The United States depends on China to buy its government debt

At the end of 2009, China held only about 7 percent of U.S. federal government debt outstanding. Sold at a high price (low yield), U.S. government debt is a popular security. At the same time, the United States is benefiting China: China has few good alternatives to hold its reserves and U.S. firms are large investors and employers in China. In the investment arena, as in others, the United States and China are mutually dependent.
The RMB: Myths and Tougher-to-Deal-With Realities

Same here with those military contracts, no one will go bankruptcy if India is not buying their stuff. Basically what India is doing here is just lowing the unit cost for those countries' own purchases. On contrary the more you buy from them the more they have you by your balls, because in the future you will depend on those nations' manufacturers for the technical assistance, ammunition supplies and future upgrades. Also during the wartime, there is the risk of those suppliers leaking the key technical data such as radar frequencies, jamming capabilities and effective counter measures to your enemy, and the possibility of backdoor trojans in their software codes. During the Falklands conflict French government secretly gave those data said above of AM-39 Exocet to the British government after Royal Navy's HMS Sheffield had been sunk by it, and stopped supplying Argentina or any of it neighbor the missile. If Argentina could produce the missile on its own, the outcome of the war would be different.
