This is what i was saying in other thread that army needs to cut down mass manpower approach and focus on technological/firpower increment in existing formations.But every year they raise new regiments.Most of these forces are equipped with old/obsolete gear - bad arty,bad rifles,bad infantry protection,bad infrastructure etc etc.Our soldiers dying in border due to lack of basic bullet proof vests...

What is the point of raising newer and newer regiments when ur soldiers don't have a proper LMG ,or modern assalt rifle,lacking modern bullet proof vests?Just paying more salaries,more pensions,more maintainenece and training,more officer shortage.Every branch raising their own little pet special forces branch -total special forces exceeding 20,000 -are they even special anymore?
IA,OFB,DRDO are the dens of corruption and foreign lobbying ,IA needs some hard slaps in the face from the government and to learn from Indian navy which has set an example on how to modernize efficeintly yet with proper numbers with indigineous equipment and a vision.

Cut down on numbers. The era of million men armies expired after WWI. Quality of training, equipment and a sound industrial base means more power than 2 million rag tag poor trained and ill equipped army.

More than 30 percent is required. Indian army at present is nothing more than a bunch of inflated numbers. Tanks, artillery, helicopters, radars, communication gear, standard weaponry, SAM, NVG, HHTI, BPJ are either missing or seriously outdated.

India needs to invest in quality and get rid of the notion more is better.

It is becoming more and more unfeasible to continue at current levels of manpower but it seems like the situation is only going to get worse as time goes by (now the IA is actively expanding).

Actually while the spend on manpower as a % is cause for concern, I'm betting the cost of equipment is higher in other countries which is why their % allocation is higher.

But we fight a war once in a decade.
More often than not we need soldiers for MOOTW and PSO, and for this army has to support civil authorities in case of crises. Under such circumstances you need men...a lot of them for example Kashmir.

Marines are not deployed to defend islands but to make amphibious assaults. Marines are an expeditionary force and the vanguard in any offensive. If US and UK are fighting other countries then the first force they will send are their marines. Which country is India planning to launch an amphibious assault on?

Army's resolve and its not just our army but every army on this planet is to protect its countries from its enemies both internal and external and to support the country in management of any human and natural desaster. Distaster management is a training that each and every army man goes through.

Please be well informed before you spout your nonsense in an international forum that first and foremost puts you ihto bad light. But you may continue the mockery you are doing here as this is the only forum which can digest and resist such individuals under the vaneer just for some "internet traffic".
