New Delhi: India is likely to come up with a state of the art technology which will allow it to counter any missile attack. The new missile defence system is likely to be up and running in two years.
When Pakistan tested its 60-km range tactical nuclear missile, the Nasr, a few months ago, the message was clear, that it now had the weapon to block any Indian military thrust into Sindh or Punjab.
But Indian scientists say that a ground based ballistic missile defence system they are working on will take care of any missile challenge, whether from the Nasr or longer range missiles Pakistan has in its inventory.
Scientist VK Saraswat, "We can intercept these missiles at exo-atmospheric range, that is beyond 40 to 50 km in altitude and endo-atmospheric bracket, that is between 15 and 30 km. This gives us the capability to take care of missiles that are ballistic in nature which could be nuclear powered or non-nuclear powered."
But right now this is work in progress with more tests of the missile interceptor planned for this year. The development of the first phase will be complete only in 2013 and after that, the integration of ground systems into a seamless network will begin.
"Today all the building blocks of the BMD are in position. We have radars, command and control systems, mobile launchers and command and control decision making software. So as far as Phase One activities go, they are by and large complete," said Saraswat.
It's only in 2016 that work on the more ambitious second phase of the missile defence network will be complete and that is when the contours of India's space based missile defence network will be revealed.

i believe we will launch spy satellites that can conduct SIGINT COMINT ELINT and IMINT that can watch suspected enemy ballistic missile bases thus be a early warning system for our BMD the radars command and control systems will automatically try to shoot down the missile

what i can tell you about phase 2 for sure is that we have new missiles like AD-1 and AD-2 which will be able to intercept ballistic missiles in the 5,000km range class and also a new missile called PDV will replace the PAD, the PDV can intercept enemy ballistic missiles in the 5,000km range class and an altitude up to 150km all these missiles will be similar to the US THAAD and will fly at hypersonic speeds

The KALI's potential for a military role as a beam weapon has made it, in the eyes of China a threat. However, weaponisation of the KALI will take some time. The system is still under development, and efforts are being made to make it more compact, as well as improve its recharge time, which, at the present, makes it only a single use system.

There are also issues with creating a complete system, which would require development of many more components. There have been reports of placing the weaponized KALI in an Il-76 aircraft as an airborne defence system. There is also speculation of using the KALI as an Anti-satellite weapon and as a space-based weapon system, although it is unlikely that they would be implemented, given India's stance on those issues.

If weaponized, it is quite likely that KALI would be integrated into the Indian Ballistic Missile Defense Program program.

so KALI is a laser??? if it can reach 1mw or 5 mw than it can be used in our BMD

we should cooperate with Israel on making national missile defense against both cruise and BM's of any class

KALI 80, KALI 200, KALI 1000, KALI 5000 are already in use, infact it is being used to design electrostatic shields to "harden" the LCA and missiles from microwave attack by the enemy as well as protecting satellites against deadly Electromagnetic Impulses (EMI) generated by nuclear weapons and other cosmic disturbances, which "fry" and destroy electronic circuits

The KALI 10,000 is the weapon which is being developed.
