Firstly he tried to overthrow the Chinese government during the Tibetan uprising of 1959. Even if he has changed his mind that doesn't change what he has done.

Secondly the Tibetan government "in exile" (notice that part) still continue to claim that they are the sovereign representative of Tibet and the Tibetan people worldwide, including those that live in China.

I agree with the past actions.
As for current claims, Empty claims do not change the reality, just like indian loons like Geelani claim to represent kashmiri people.

they are only as important as you make them. I don't worry about them, neither should you mate

CS, I doubt the dismantling in your sense of the word would happen. The opposition will the incumbent govt. alive for capitulating to china. I think it will remain as is for the time being.

I am not asking about its practicability in Indian internal politics right now but merely if could be a feasible solution, seeing that Beijing's concerns would be pretty adequately addressed.

card but if my memory serves me right, DL has indeed claimed tibet to be a part of China. How does he still qualify for being a separatist.

Again it is a case of Caesar offering peace terms during the Roman civil war that the senate can accept but Pompey can't. His concession there would make China look even more like the unreasonable party in the world's eyes, when he is still a de facto threat to sovereignty.

Anyway my bottom-line is that we are stuck with him, so GOI tries to keep him on the down low. I honestly don't think GOI is in a position to do anything further unless sino-indian relations significantly improve (which probably wont happen in the near future)

The relationship is bad partially because of the TGE, and because relations are bad, India can't act on the Tibetan issue. Still there is little China can do, the first impetus has to come from the Indian side.

Do you know what he called "Tibetan autonomy", so-called "Greater Tibet" program? Do you think it is not independent?

he oppose chinese communist govt not china....

and we all first need to learn who is Liu Xiaobo and what making him given this prize...

infect Liu Xiaobo also oppose communist govt of china and called for democracy...

do it makes in china that everyone who calls for democracy is a criminal , then norvey is rightly giving this award to Liu Xiaobo for his affart in faver of democarcy like it was given earlier to dalai lama and suo key of burma..

.
that's just great :hitwall:
although i don't think GOI could've stopped it. the most it can do is to prevent any public demonstrations, if DL calls up a japanese newspaper (assuming they didn't make this up) I don't think GOI is capable of blocking him

That's why I proposed what I proposed, it would de-fang him if he made those statements as a religious figure rather than a political figure.

and what gives you the right to impose democracy on china if 98% chinese are happy with their current govt.
When you support kashmir being part of india based on general public feeling, why a different standard for chinese?

So we want to ask, what is India's plans in Tibet? You even still have ambitions in Tibet, or that there is a future reconciliation plan and the china in Tibet?

my personal opinion is that we should focus on solving the border issues first since they are easier to solve. if we can achieve that, we will develop a lot more trust and understanding of each other. then we can proceed to de-fang DL

It's a common tact used by closet racists. "I am not against the Chinese people but merely the Chinese government". I see people getting away with some outrageous comments using this logic, but they usually tip their hand, by eventually making ad homenum attacks of a racial nature. ie "I wouldn't expect a chinese to understand .... democracy.... freedom of speech.... human rights" etc etc

there is no different standers....it's only you comparing tibet with kashmir , but no one from kashmir flys to other country like lamas did after suppresed by communist cinese govt..

btw , i like to know whats you views on noble prize given to suo key of burma...?

Am pretty sure that the Chinese government have sent formal complaints similar to ours, with regard to his political activities.

What do you think about my suggests that the Indian government dismantle the TGE?

You mean ban TGE.

For me TGE from the political perspective is like numerous political parties in Kashmir ,seeking/voicing independence from India.

Except unlike the Kashmiri parties going rallies and demonstrations for freedom, the free-Tibet demonstrations are not allowed as these people are refugees.

Banning TGE comes with its own set of consequences
1.whose is going to administer the Tibetan refugees?
2.Reaction of domestic political parties to it,as it is interpreted by opposition as submitting to Chinese interest.
3.Will it change China stance on India?

For the last point, from a pragmatic view,China mostly won't budge on stance on SA geopolitics as Pakistan is more valuable to China than India.

The most India can do is "limit TGE's political activity".

For that to be done China has to make the first move.

Say,comes a situation where an exiled Kashmiri militant leader takes refugee in China and is not allowed to preach his views from the context Chinese Govt adheres to Indian stance on Kashmiri militants.

Then as a sign of reciprocity India might tighten rules for TGE.

heheh if you think that border issue is easier to solve.... I mean come on if the opposition party will accuse the government of caving to China over the DL, what would they do when India starts negotiating the land dispute (which of course would involve give take of land that India claims as its own)
