India slaps 16pc duty on RMG from Bangladesh

.
:lol:what has yarn and protecting your farmers got to do with bangladesh exporting rmg? do you have comprehension problems?

is there anything tough to understand abt what i just said ???what are u ??a kid??importing garments from ur country with 16% duty makes them costlier which means lesser market for cotton .india is a bigger market..when there is abaundant raw material here no one would prefer abroad so demand for local cotton increases and livelyhood of farmer increases

:what:but we don't export any rmg India. your theory is far fetched. cotton is sold at international market rate otherwise your farmers go on mass suicide.

even a blanket comes under the definition of rmg
according to international Standard Industrial Classification of all economic activities adopted by the United Nations
including the ILO definition of rmg industry is as follows"‘those establishments which do not make fabrics or knitted fabrics but only cut and make garments out of them, could be covered under the garment industry"

Its funny, some of the posters from BD. They ridicule India as a potential market, with jibes like - "you can't afford our clothes", "you guys don't pay", etc.

Yet, people from within the industry in BD, don't seem to be buying it. Check out the McKinsey Report -

https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&r...=3y41kEu0lvUlHgOjqyBZmg&bvm=bv.43287494,d.aGc

Check out Exhibit 4, on Page 9. A survey amongst the suppliers reveals that they consider India as the third most important market over the next 10 years - with 35% of the respondents backing this view.

So clearly, though it might not sit well with bruised egos of some of the posters from BD, supplier from BD, by their own admission, do see india as one of the top potential markets.

On topic - The textile industry in india is labour intensive and employs large number of people. The growth of this industry is criticial not only from an economic aspect but also from a social perspective. The double relief, coming from the duty on BD exports and cut in local excise will act as a much needed impetus to growth in the sector.

Man this is ridiculous. These members think it is very easy to make decisions, and do export. They are not at all aware of any economic policy and have no idea about international trade. Well even I am also not an expert but our Indian economic gurus here have given sufficient reasons to them and told them why such a decision. But it is beyond the understanding of some Bangladeshi friends.

.
Why not Hassina slap 20% on Indian imports?

So much for free trade

Besides, there isn't much point in marketing our products over there due to the ethnocentric nature of Indian consumers. Another thing is that it is difficult to do business over there for both Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Let alone setting up production or service facilities in India.

Meanwhile, India has over 150 corporations in Bangladesh operating safely and profitably!

because their produts enjoyed duty free trade for 2 years for 61 items including rmg which affected the local traders.u expected the deal to continue for eternity??besides duty was only imported on garments.not on remaining.besides who said that thers no duty for indian products??india gave the wavier one sidedly

r u sayin that bangladeshis are not happy doing trade with india??because the total trade is $4.5 billion as of this year. bangladesh is the largest trading partner of india in the sub continent
