India slams Western intervention

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday slammed Western countries for using force to change regimes in West Asia and North African countries, and called for adherence to the UN principles on respecting independence and sovereignty of all nation states, local media reported Sunday.

Local newspaper The Times of India Sunday quoted Singh as saying at the UN General Assembly session in New York that that societies cannot be re-ordered by outsiders through military force and absence of democracy and rule of law cannot be a pretext to violate sovereignty and integrity of countries.

"The observance of the rule of law is as important in international affairs as it is within countries. Societies cannot be re-ordered from outside through military force. People in all countries have the right to choose their own destiny and decide their own future," he said. "The idea that prescriptions have to be imposed from outside is fraught with danger."

The Indian prime minister was clearly referring to the recent war in Libya and unrest in Syria and Yemen.

Local observers said the criticism by India of Western intervention in West Asia and North Africa is a clear warning against Western countries' intention to use force to impose democracy in other countries and it also underlined a growing disconnect between India and the United States.

"Actions taken under the authority of the United Nations must respect the unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of individual states," said Singh. "We will succeed if our efforts have legitimacy and are pursued not just within the framework of law but also the spirit of law."

This remark echoed the feeling in India that Western powers went beyond the mandate they secured from the Security Council by using force in Libya, said a local analyst.

The Indian PM also repeated India's strong support to Palestine's demand for full membership of the United Nations as a state.

"India is steadfast in its support for the Palestinian people's struggle for a sovereign, independent, viable and united state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, living within secure and recognizable borders side by side and at peace with Israel. We look forward to welcoming Palestine as an equal member of the United Nations," he said in his address to the UN.

I'm against everything he said . Gadaffi was one of the worst dictators ever, good that the western countries helped libyans get rid of him. As for unrest in syria , there is hardly anything to say except for perhaps
Syria forces 'raping and torturing young girls' - Channel 4 News . Did Manmohan singh hear of that 18 year old girl who was tortured and murdered in syria recently? They did stuff to her that i prefer not to write. Same goes for Yemen.

As for Palestine , its too bad that palestinians are getting killed by israel , but israel is our ally , and the least we can do is not vote on the issue at all. At the end of the day , we have to see what's good for our country. If Palestinians were being killed by Chinese , then hardly any pakistanis would have raised their voice against it.

And you, my friend, need to come to grips with reality. Not all Indians, and by that I mean the majority, are Hindutva followers. Not everyone is against Pakistan and her stand for Islam, China, "humanity," and all that is good and righteous in this world, or whatever it is you guys ramble on about. (And this isn't aimed at all Pakistanis or Pakistan, just these lunatics who act like they're the only good and right ones in this world, and that everything revolves around their mindset.)

It's too late now. The BRICS countries were asleep and let the Arab puppet Kingdoms in the Middle East talk them into abstaining. And today, NATO has destroyed the Libyan infrastructure and the people of Sirte and Bani Walid are fighting for their lives.

Lay off the racist insults. Indian foreign policy has always been consistent, we have followed our own path and ideals. We have cooperated with all countries based on issues and opposed them based on issues too.

Your naturally limited understanding of foreign policy, limited to providing illiterate idiots as cannon fodder and free oil and weapons and religion (LOL) is another sign of your failure. There is a reason the whole country is in jokes of the century section today.
