45 bil was the latest budget passed by parliament. But to be honest that is not much of a difference. Most of India's navy budget goes to salaries and pensions, only about 15-20 bil will go to military hardware.

“Today, the opening of a plant manufacturing AK-203 assault rifles at an arms factory in the Indian town of Korwa in accordance with the agreements reached earlier at the highest level and the intergovernmental agreement took place”, Shugaev told reporters. According to the director, over 700,000 rifles will be manufactured under the agreement.

“The plant’s capacity allows [the Indian authorities] to fully equip personnel from the Indian security forces [with the rifles], and the sides can agree on an increase of output and production upgrade if necessary”, Director General of Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheev said.

Commenting on the plant’s launch, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Russia and President Putin for the joint venture, saying that the AK-203 assault rifle will not only provide major support to the Indian infantry but will also be a revenue earner in terms of exports to third countries.

“I express my gratitude to my friend President Vladimir Putin, this venture was made possible in such a short time by his support”, Modi said.

The Russian president, in turn, sent a letter to the official ceremony’s participants and guests, where he said that “military and technical cooperation has traditionally been one of the key areas of special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India”.

Putin qualified the plant as a new symbol of friendship and constructive cooperation between Russia and India. Russian-Indian talks on the production of Kalashnikov rifles in India started back in 2015

I really hope this becomes the standard issue of the infantry in the coming days. AK series has been renowned for its effectiveness against terrorists as it is a guaranteed kill due to its high calibre and rugged design. With newer improvements, things such as its crazy iconic recoil, heating and other related issues will be resolved.

One thing I completely disagree for the Indian Army is the lack of a standard sidearm issue. The Army doesn't give high powered pistols and handguns to JCOs and instead makes them rely on daggers/khukris (in case of Gorkha soldiers) and their rifle alone.

Also, the socialist-level rationing of rounds is just pathetic and shows that the government needs to tighten fob's belt to produce quality ammunition in time; or simply privatise the ammunition business.

Pakistan Armed Forces are using Rus Made AK 103 and 8 months ago Pakistan Media was showing this. Is this Rus Made AK 103 Series will be arming 750,000 Pakistan Army ? Even the Pakistan Armed Forces have received Automatic guns from Chinese, Austrians, Iranians. Does Pakistan Ordinance made any decent rifles for Pakistan Military.

It's GtoG deal I think, so nothing. But it's unfair to waste so much time for the previous tenders. Unfair for all the requirement changes. This is the first bulk order.

Doctrine has changed. its only the frontline troops who see actual combat who will get these foreign rifles, reserves and soldier of other arms who dont engage in direct gunfight will stick with INSAS and other locally developed platforms.
