India signs deal to buy 15 fast-interception boats from France

India has signed a deal to buy 15 fast-interception boats (FIBs) from the French shipyard Chantier Naval Couach.

The boats are meant for use by the new Sagar Prahari Bal (Sea Patrol Force in Hindi) being raised by Navy.

Indian media quoting defence ministry sources said the deal could be worth an estimated $500 million and was concluded on March 27. However, there was no official word on this from the Indian MoD.

India is seeking upto 80 FIBs for the Sea Patrol Force which was raised after the attack on Mumbai by sea-borne terrorists in 2008 which cost 200 lives. The Sea patrol Force will be a 1000 man force specially trained to function as a monitoring and interceptor force.

It will supplement the Navy and Coast guard.

Why are they giving order to France??

We have enough companies to manufacture them domestically.

Recently, 36 high-speed interceptor boats for the Indian Coast Guard. The contract, valued at Rs977 crore, is awarded to Indian Private firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Why don't they given it to L&T?

.
well same here yar why they are providing this opportunity to L&T and the discouraging response to arjun what's going on yar India give chance to Indians

Why don't they given it to L&T?

Thats diplomacy my friend.

Here are some of the reasons:

1. Indian dry docks are already working on full capacity. So it will take lots of time to manufacture these and delivery would be few years from now.

2. Buying from France would strengthen our relationship and put pressure on France to stop arming Pakistan.

3. Of course we would get better quality boats from them.

4. These boats are in expensive and buying them from France won't make a difference.

So all in all, its a good deal, we get quality and play diplomacy at the same time. Its a small order, but will play a big role in signaling France of Indian defence market that is booming and in order to take advantage of it France has to stop deals with Pak.

I dont think things are that simple. Fine then let us monitor French sub sales to Pakistan if anything reflects there.

What a Joke!

Aray Bhai, the French company greased the right palms in your Ministry of Defense and the User (i.e Indian Navy).

If you think that over a few 'in-expensive' boats being sold to India France will stop support for the French Agusta's to Pakistan, you are seriously inhaling some shitty stuff man!!

India is also eyeing Mistral class ships from france and Asking them to design Scorpene subs in a way that nuclear reactors can later be fitted on them.Anyways russia, israel and france have always helped india with Hi technology and real causes of deals found out later on.
