Any strategic chess move to pit any of the island nations against India will back fire and choke China in Malacca straits. There is nothing that can rival IN in this region for decades to come. The pipelines and other networks that China is building to by pass Malacca straits won't work in war time as they are very vulnerable. Indian economy was growing and is still growing though at a lesser pace.

Norway's and Sweden's and many other countries have good economies. They are not regional powers by any stretch of imagination. Though it helps, economy is not the criteria to become a powerful nation. All elements of national power are taken into account.

India is geographically boxed in between two powerful countries who cover it from three sides. It can not exert its influence on three of its sides. Where will you exert the influence as a regional power.

Seeing some places in India and understanding Indians are two different things. Have you ever been to Pakistan and have you ever seen the development in Pakistan. Your own journalists who have visited Pakistan said that they were surprised.
