"With increasing household income and increasing contributions from the service and industrial sectors, the water demand in the domestic and industrial sectors increasing substantially," says a study conducted by EA Water, a leading consulting firm in water sector.

Nearly 70 per cent of country's irrigation and 80 per cent of domestic water use comes from groundwater, which is rapidly getting depleted.

However, overseas players from Canada, Israel, Germany, Italy, United States, China and Belgium sees big investment opportunity worth USD 13 billion in the domestic water sector.

The industry is expected to receive Rs 18,000 crore in the next three years, the report said.

We have lots of rivers and huge chunk of water goes west in sea. When There was a flood in Narmada. I heard that in 3 days a huge quantum of Water equal to 7 years of consumption of Saurashtra went into the Drain in just 3 days. If we have to blame some one than it is our reckless use and poor water management and nothing else.

We can also divert the Ganga and Brahmaputra ^.^ :)

We need a water grid and proper water management system. In Gujarat, Narmada's water is flowing i almost all the river. Still the work of Huge pipelines is on. Once it is over , whole gujarat shall have a robust water grid and all area including dry and desert area shall become green and full of water.

There are many small rivers and pounds. We can fill them with either river water or with other water source. That shall revive the lost source of water.

Ganga???? Reallly??? Is it clean enough tobe used.

u guys are already taking a lot, how much more u want from kashmir?
Apart from Varanasi Ganga is clean. Where do you think the water for the country comes from?

We want more water from Kashmir. ;)

What happened to the River Grid? It is going to solve India;s problem to large extent. Rivers not only provide water to the near by habbitats but also recharges ground water table. Once the grid is established, the low water areas where rivers get revived only during monsoon will start getting water from water abundant rivers during non-monsoon times as well. This will slowly recharge the ground water tables too.
