Offcourse it is an exercise, but that does not mean , there isn't a sublingual message in there.

China is much bigger and much stronger country, it would be foolish of Indians to goad China. However it is equally foolish of Chinese to provoke India, as India sits on a Chinese lifeline and Americans are just itching to recruit Indians against China.

Here we have two of the strongest Asian Navies, marking each's territory.

Granted, there might have been a message the Indian government was trying to send across, but an one-off exercise does not (and probably is not meant to) resonate, even in political terms. Especially of a navy that is rapidly expanding.

Years ago maybe early 2000s I was flicking through channels and came across a india news channel, I think it was NDTV

They were talking about indias rise and whether it can be a supa pawa (even back then)

One of the panelists a ex general or military man or something said something very insightful

He said in order for india to achieve the status it desires it needs peace and friendship in the sub continent and especially with Pakistan

He went on, Pakistan is a loaded gun pointing at indias head so as india progresses towards its goals if at any point it comes into disagreement with any world power they have this ready made gun already pointing at indias head.

Any great power needs peace in its surrounding area in order to project power elsewhere otherwise it will be dealing and burdened with the threat from around it.
