India seeks its rightful role on world stage: UN Envoy

.
First let india find food and employment for all its citizens before a UNSC seat!

Sorry, but we've a problem of too much food (especially wheat), which we are unable to store.

Dear Sir .....Do we also need to solve our "too much wheat" problem too?

. .
It is like.... Hitler seeking noble prize for peace.

Remember France and britain in 1945 was far off worse cos of war, yet they made PM..
Its nothing about food... Its representing about 1.2billion people or 17% of world's population in global stage

. .
Role on the world stage? Jeeez! How about its more immediate role of alleviating poverty and providing good governance at home first, before thinking big? Right now all the role it can get on the world stage is that of a two bit clown! We've made a laughing stock of ourselves and continue to poodle fake and flounder as we have no foreign policy worth the name.

What does one expect from the present lot of politicos and bureaucrats sitting in their ivory towers busy selling the country to make a fast buck and score political brownie points for personal power and pelf? It's 'kissa kursi ka' all the way and nothing else matters. That seems to be the only policy our ruling class has.

The tragedy is that this country of 1.3 billion souls does't have a single statesman worth the name. Who is that person (or party) who can pull India back from the brink and put it on the road to prosperity? It is only after this that India can think of seeking a role on the world stage and be strong enough to be heard.

Until then all this talk of an emerging super power etc is nothing but poppycock.

Am I being a pessimist? You tell me!

I am heartened to see some Indian forum members do not buy into the usual bull we hear from Indian members on here.

having said that reform of the UN is essential as France an UK should not have the elevated status that they do either

IMO, the UNSC should be:

4 Permanent members with veto:
-USA
-Russia
-EU
-China

6 Permanent members:
-UK
-France
-Germany
-Japan
-India
-Brazil

10 non-permanent seats

Is there any process to remove permanent members from UN?
I doubt its highly possible to put UK in a list with no veto.. Remember they are too frontrunners for founding the UN..

.
No, removing UNSC permanent members is a UNSC decision - hence the catch-22. At this point, the only possible change is expansion. But expansion is difficult too, as the 13-member Coffee Club would have you believe.

Sorry, dear ... your opinion doesnt matter.

You're Out.

Hi everyone

I have a doubt. If we ever became a premanent member(not superpower) in UNSC with veto power then do you think that we will ever use veto power???.
I don't have much knowledge about the subject but it seems that veto power is always used in opposition to a resolution which is passed by the majority member of UN (i hope i'm right), which in my opinion is very irresponsible behaviour that you are not going by the wishes of majority. So what the use of veto power for a responsible country like us who always believe in consensus.

That's why it's just an opinion. But you're right, in reality the status quo will be maintained India will have to rely on waiting its turn once every decade in elections.

first india become a responsible state a developed country so that it become a country to lead.

you cant play a active role in world affairs just because of huge population..
