Building infrastructure loses you money in the short term but in the long term its well worth it. And unlike the spice corridor, Pakistan actually borders China, the world's second largest economy. Speaking of China, they have got $3 trillion worth of reserves (the most in the world) and even a country like the U.S owes them debt. BTW India's Debt to GDP ratio is almost the same as Pakistan's. So this debt argument and labelling Pakistan falling into trap is complete bull sh!t. China needs Pakistan and Pakistan needs China. India is the loser facing a two front war.
Countries build infrastructure to generate revenue not to increase their debt. If you are investing for future you need to have proper plan for it. But, as per Wiki CPEC was to provide secured and reduced passage for China's energy imports from the Middle East and for boosting the trade between Europe and China, due to this Pakistan hoped to generate 2-3 million jobs.
If I analyze CPEC then it was a golden opportunity provided by China to Pakistan, GoP should have used this opportunity not only to build power plants, but also should have aimed to overcome an electricity shortfall and to build infrastructure networks to transport the power to different Industrial complexes and thereby generate revenue and they should have modernized transportation networks using toll collected through movement of goods.
But, what actually did you achieved from CPEC ? Pakistan’s political instability and poor decision making converted investment into debt and now you are struggling to repay the interest also.
That’s isn’t called planned investment, instead it’s a planned suicide.
