The Indian Navy’s Vikramaditya aircraft carrier will participate in the Russian Navy Day parade on July 29 in Severomorsk, the main base of Russia’s Northern Fleet, the press service of the Russian Western Military Region said on Thursday.

The ship, which is currently undergoing sea trials in the Barents Sea, is being operated by a crew of the Northern Fleet. Also on board the ship are several representatives of the Sevmash Defence Shipyard, where the aircraft carrier was upgraded, and officers of the Indian Navy.

On Navy Day, the Vikramaditya will be in the front line with the ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet. About 12 ships and over 3,000 naval personnel will be take part in the in the Severomorsk Naval Parade. The main events will be held at Primorskaya Square and in Severomorsk harbour, where military theatrical and sports performances will take place. The celebration will be culminated with an artillery salute.

Naval ships from France, Britain, Norway and the United States have participated in Navy Day events in Severomorsk in the past.

The Vikramaditya aircraft carrier (formerly Soviet aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov) was extensively refitted at Russia's Sevmash shipyard. The ship has a flight deck, a ski-jump for the MiG-29K aircraft to take off and advanced equipment. Inside the aircraft carrier there are new cable routes with a total length of over 2,000 kilometres. The ship is equipped with new navigation and radar systems, as well as a communications and aircraft control system.

After the tests are completed, a Northern Fleet crew will transfer the ship to a crew of the Indian Navy.

how can u call INS vik a crap?? a 45k tonne carrier which can carry 30+ aircrafts (fixed & rotatory) will be the heaviest ship of IN & will be the largest ship in IOR after the US AC's. I know it is a refurbished carrier but it is now nearly 80% new with an expected life of 30 years, It will be really a game changer in IOR when the Chinese are gaining more & more influence in the region, this will certainly make IN the most trusted navy in the region. I don't see any reason as to why this is a crap?? In fact, Russians were happy to induct it before when there was a row generated by it's increased price, they said if India doesn't pay more for the ship, it will be inducted into Russian navy fleet.
