^ Indian navy has listening posts from madagascar to seychelles to mauritius to Oman etc etc...

What we now need is to turn A&N into a war fortress and have some naval listening posts beyond that point also.. maybe in some Indonesian Island or Malaysian island.. and with Berthing rights in vietnam we will rule the malaccan straights..

I don't know when this article was written but I know for a fact (whether it is publicized is another matter) that the stratgic signifcance of A&N is being realized now and their are bold plans coming in to place to exploit it. Already at certain times in the year there are fighter detachments (MKIs or Jag-IM) deployed at A&N as well as ever growing rotary wing assets and surface vessels of IN and ICG. A small detachment of MARCOs is also constantly based on the islands and the MARCOs have a huge jungle training facilty on the islands exclusively for them which is used throughout the year for new entrants into the force. The runways at the main base are being extended to handle the new P-8Is and UAVs will soon be stationed there. There are many more devlopments but they are too long to list. Have faith!!

As for the A&N we already have a naval base and air force base there. It should be modernized so we can have one of the ACC based there.

There is a reason why its called the INDIAN ocean. Its the backyard of the Indian armed forces. From the Malacca straits to Madagascar. How can I say so that you understand.....'It is part of our core interests'. The induction of all those warships, aircraft carriers, subs and aerial assets is being done to strengthen and if required project control across the complete area.

Fortress Command is bigger than probably any of the navies in South East Asia. Let alone the complete might of the Indian Navy. Ofcourse we have a strictly no intervention till requested policy of late.

1.We in BD blame the Pakistani bureaucrats and leaders of the time for loosing A&N just like we lost Calcutta, Murshidabad, Assam and Tripura. Even Dr Phizo wanted to opt for (East ) Pakistan at one stage.

First get rid of the listening posts in Coco islands by engaging Myanmar actively. India should have been focussing twice as much as in Myanmar as it does in Afghanistan but our politicians do not have a vision.

Don't know if Pearl Harbour should be the right example, but we do need to increase especially the naval capabilities there. Air force can cover the bay of bengal from shore based airbases too and I recently read that the weather conditions at A&N are problematic for operating fighters and aircrafts there. However, GoI/MoD already decided to build a fullfledged airbase there that jointly will be used by IAF and IN.

Heavy showers out there.The airstrips get literally swamped .The place isn't really conducive for the IAF.
