India’s “Pivot to Asia”

Strategic benefits of ties with Thailand wrt to China are limited for India as Chinese influence there is substantial. And as per wikileaks Thais have shown concern of China.

Visit to Japan doesn't have to be a response to Ladakh stunt unless to rescheduled.

China has no Influence at all in Thailand. Thailand has been a CIA resource site for decades.

China spanked India at DBO so India cries and begs for help from other countries. USA doesn't care. :haha:

Funny , after every spanking it is China that run backs with tail between their legs ......

International diplomacy is an absolute must need....the more friends we have the better our chances when war comes knocking at our doorstep (something Marathas know first hand as a result of Panipat)

Nevertheless, I dont think any diplomacy should be focussed at a specific country...it should be to further our overall security...NOT just to protect India from China or Pakistan..
If we learned anything from our own history, we indians kept fighting each other and our neighbors using British money and soon found ourselves becoming a colony...lets not focus on one enemy while those we call our friends and allies end up taking advantage of us...

PS: China is way mightier than us at this point,...so we should not be doing any policing or providing net security to other countries....we need to be way stronger and economically powerful to be doing that...let the US handle the big brother role...

very astute comment. India should spend more money for the welfare of its people than try to do too much.

China is very funny. What did it expect when the miitary set up camp prior to their visit? Seriously, what did they expect? Whatever it was, it helped to push India forward instead of being stuck in policy paralysis.

very astute comment. India should spend more money for the welfare of its people than try to do too much.

India is not going to spend money and provide net security. What all these countries will eventually do to counter CHINESE BULLYING is pool their resources together for weapons research and weapons manufacturing, in order to compete with China's economy without going broke.

Security and strategy never revolves around one country. However, in this instance there is one nation that seems to be causing a lot of discomfort and problems for others smaller nations. Acting like a bully would best describe it. It's words are different from its actions.

Just to further clarify myself....not saying welfare alone should be our only focus....we have to find the "chi" between our security+ larger ambitions and welfare....we can't be weak and divided to allow others to walk over, but also not economically shallow to be dependent on others...

Everything has a time and place and ours is to make ourselves internally strong...

I'm not saying that India should not protect themselves, but it should not play the role of policeman in any region.

more than half of the posts in this thread are by chinese and they say they are not obsessed with India  dumb losers !

Every country in a position of power will always be considered a "bully" in some regard in its immediate neighborhood...
It is the case of India in South Asia with Pakistan, BD....Israel in the ME....and of course so is China in the eyes of East asia
The point is, there are many other countries that have beef with China that have little to lose with US getting their back....why not let them have a go at China until we make our selves strong enough to negotiate with them to solve our boundary issues from a position of strength?

All Im saying is that we dont need to get ourselves involved beyond our sphere of influence...YET

and if we do strike strike, we do so from a position of our time and choosing...and now is simply not the time..

I'm not saying that India should not protect themselves, but it should not play the role of policeman in any region.

Policeman in SCS...Hell no..
But securing Indian ocean and our territorial claims since its part of our sphere of interest, then yes...we have to protect what affects us directly

No doubt during Vietnam war the US-Thai relations have been very strong.

Recent past however, China has made a push for stronger ties with Thais.

As the shape of Southeast Asia, Asia writ large, and the world has changed, so have Thai attitudes. The Chinese have been making a major push to upgrade all aspects of relations, including mil-mil. Thailand is not interested in making a choice between the U.S. and China (nor do we see closer Chinese-Thai relations as automatically threatening to our interests here), but we will need to work harder to maintain the preferred status we have always enjoyed.

U.s.-thai Relations: Sustaining Our Important Military-military Engagement Program And Access

THE INCREASING ROLE OF CHINA ---------------------------- ¶12. (C) Thailand continues to develop closer relations with China while simultaneously emphasizing the vital role of the U.S. in the region. The military is part of this trend, both in terms of weapons procurement and, more recently, joint BANGKOK 00000345 003 OF 003 exercises. Your interaction with GEN Songkitti, in particular, would be a prime opportunity to explore Thai military thoughts on the future direction of engagement with the PLA. JOHN

Thailand Scenesetter For Admiral Keating

Besides Thailand hasn't shown much interest of countering Chinese influence in the region with India as much as say, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam to some extent.

hose we call our friends and allies end up taking advantage of us...

I would say that, so far, it has been the other way round.

India is taking advantage of some countries' concerns about China to obtain technology and other concessions for itself.

more than half of the posts in this thread are by chinese and they say they are not obsessed with India  dumb losers !

Since the OP revolves around China as the reason for India's pivot, it is reasonable to expect them to respond.

And it is reasonable for us to call them obsessed then !

Diplomacy should not be focus on one country it should be in east, west, north and south and comparing and China has greater influence in the region and globally too .. and India will need many many years to coup with Chines growing influence...

China spanked India at DBO so India cries and begs for help from other countries. USA doesn't care. :haha:

Really.

Next, you'll say China spanked Japan between 1937-45.

China was stripped naked in DBO and paraded back nude, in full global view.

And all that HongWu could do is to post his "heavy armoured brigage photographs" on a lousy defence forum !!!

After all Sun Tzu told the chinese -- if you get raped, deny it. Say, it was consensual sex. Or better say, the rapist was a prostitute who was paid to provide sexual services.

HongWu stands by teachings of Sun-Tzu.

Silly of you that logic goes out of the window when it comes to India and pak :woot:
