The entire cadre of junior to senior level army officers in India are stunned by a latest alert issued from the office of the Military Intelligence Chief that intelligence operatives in Pakistan have been making ‘spoofed phone calls’ to Indian Army officers for the extraction of sensitive information.

According to the alert, the Pakistani operatives are allegedly using numbers based in Delhi. This, the report says, is done when the Pakistani operatives allegedly present themselves as officials of the Indian intelligence RAW, the IB or the Airforce. The alert states: “Pakistan based intelligence operatives(PIO) are calling staff officers to senior officers at all levels to extract information.”

DNAIndia.com claims that this breach of security was revealed after the February 21 blast in Hyderabad in which a telephone call originating from Pakistan to an officer of the National Security Guard in New Delhi sought information about the blast. The caller, identifying himself as an officer of the Army’s Military Intelligence (MI), asked the officer whether the NSG chief had left for the blast spot.

The MI advisory adds: “No classified information to be shared by operators at EPBAX exchanges even if the caller has been identified. Persons in doubt about identify of the caller should request for caller number and call back for authentication of identity and call should be terminated in case of doubt. This directly concerns security of defence forces”.

DNAIndia.com quotes its sources as saying that on some instances, even civilians associated with the Kendirya Vidyalaya staff or military engineering service officers, have also been approached by these ‘spoof callers’ via telephone who trick them into sharing confidential information that could harm India’s national interests if they are shared with unconcerned authorities.

this was in the news months ago , why post it not?

It happened again recently.

Infact, such things are happening time and again consistently.

MoD and Army caught on the backfoot.
