India, Russia to embark on $45 bln nuclear energy roadmap

If you have a house or farm near that location my advice would be to sell it while you can and get out .

The symptoms of living near a wind farm vary from dizziness; balance problems; memory loss; inability to concentrate; insomnia; tachycardia; increased blood pressure; raised cortisol levels; headaches; nausea; mood swings; anxiety; tinnitus; palpitations and depression.

Investigation finds thousands of people living near wind farms falling sick

Here is a joint study by USA, Canada & UK

Effects of industrial wind turbine noise on sleep and health

You are right, but partially... They do cause humming sound (which has been proven conclusively that the sound it not more than 100db at 40m or 100m height or something like that and that sound is less than a bunch of frogs twittering their way to glory on a lonely summer night). The flicker, which did cause dizzyness in few cases is now a days regulated by strong anti-flicker laws (which means turbines literally stop during the time of the day when the shadow of the turbine is on your house).

You are too scared of a wind turbine mate.. Guess, I need to speak to my ex-contacts and really get you to see a turbine... It is not quite a devil that you are making it out to be... It'd be a nice excursion as well ;) or you work for an oil and gas company??? lol

All the windmills are on mountains in sahyadris/western ghat around 1000 m above sealevel and are mostly farway from populations.

So no worries...

why is everyone eager to fcuk up the seas. deep sea explorations, off shore this, off shore that. isn't ecosystem of most of land on earth messed up enough that now people are ruining oceans.

. .
Problem with them is... they want to do business under their terms, as they do with most of the countries. They don't want to abide by the liability clause put forth by India.. & would rather dictate the terms themselves. When you have every other country willing to follow what India has to day, US seems to have problem adjusting to the local laws. anyway.. their loss is gain for others!

+1

The US hates operating on a level playing field where there is the chance they can lose out to competitors as such they try to stack their hand and comprise their competitors in order to gain the upper hand and an unfair advantage. The US prefers to do govt-govt deals or operate in a market of ONE so they make their "allies" leeches- dependent on the US for almost everything from security to trade and economic growth.India has done well to stay the eff out of such a status quo.

@topic it is clear what is needed is a coherent and progressive road map for providing the future power generation needs of 1.2 Billion+ people that encompasses many different methods of power generation. The GoI has such a plan btw but it could be argued it does take a particularly environmentally friendly approach.

There is a desperate need in India for mammoth amounts of added power generation for the future and this is not going to be met by a single source. However one must also be incredibly cautious and walk a fine line when looking to other solutions such as wind or tidal as the long-term effects of such generation methods is still very much unknown and as you can imagine, once you/India has taken the first steps down such a road ie invested billions into such methods, it is unlikely anyone involved is going to look to favorably upon the idea of in any way backing off and or closing such plants.

And for those saying $45 BN is a huge amount- yes it is but when spread out over decades and considering India is going to grow considerably economically by then this amount is pretty small relatively. And can you put a price on economic security? Not to mention that if India does not meet the needs of the future wrt energy needs then any future economic growth will be seriously compromised.

++ India should also pay close attention to future/next-generation power production methods ie Nuclear fusion and Hydrogen power.India in some way should invest its own time, expertise and treasure in these fields.

I am glad if your first statement gave you a kick ;) I was trying to be honest. Take it or leave it is your choice.

It did :D...and the only thing better than trying to be honest is actually being honest.

To say that GL is biased is something I would believe only if substantiated, else we are just engaging in a meaningless speculative match... Personally, I find your general swipe a bit offending of the hard work done by a truly global organization (and I don't work for GL)

...And I come back again to the GL point... To say that GL or a global certification agency is biased is again speculative and i don't know why should i prove it to you that it is trustworthy or not, when you have no real context (except hypothesis and some obscure report of an effect). it should ideally take a lot more to mistrust an established institution...

GL is a billion $ group who’s primary source of Income comes from issuing certificates. It’s a ‘you scratch my back, I scratch you back’ deal with windmill farms and operators. Only the truly desperate will hold up their certificate up to claim ‘no damage to environment’.

In any case GL certification only covers the safety aspect for operators by calculation the load for wind turbines based on stochastic wind fields modal or finite element analysis techniques and fluid-structure interaction of the submerged part.

GL design certification, C-D is for plausibility check of the rotor blades, the main components as well as of the tower and foundation. A-B is for load assumptions, safety system, rotor blades, machinery components, tower and foundation, electrical installations and hub and nacelle cover.

As you can see, none of their certification deals with environmental impact. It’s not a ‘green certificate’ as you have tried to make us believe.

So, what you are doing here is fear mongering, based on one or a small set of reports (which ideally are funded by oil and gas folks) and surprisingly to you, everyone who supports the wind is biased and everyone who's not supporting wind speaks the gospel... I do find that amusing... It is OK to be concerned, but it is NOT OK to become a paranoid my friend.

What I am doing is digging for the ‘truth’ and what you are trying to do is obfuscate the investigation. It’s you who appear blinded by greed or maybe fear of losing your livelihood (...in context of defending it).

For wind in India, Farooq Abdullah, Finance Secretariat and Indian Banks are genuinely convinced and that is all that matters ;)

I agree, which is why the concern is all the more legitimate.

And you are too greedy mate ..even at the cost of destroying a few million lives. You certainly speak 'Corporate American'.

..since you cast aspersion on my 'motive' (supreme court has held that motives dont matter ...as long as the facts are legitimate) and indulge in name calling allow me to do the same.

As a Hindu I have been taught to ask 'why' and as an Indian I am argumentative in pursuit of 'truth' . .... in the final scheme of things only the truth matter ...and it doesn't matter who provides it.

So no worries...

...then its all the more worrying ..the average height of the western Ghats is 2.7 kms and Rain bearing clouds float at 2.9 kms.

This is Bad Bad news for the Maharashtra farmers. ......... in this case I would be happy to be proved wrong. But somehow I doubt it

Western ghats do not have such huge heights. Even the major peaks in Maharastra are Kalsubai (1600 meter) and Mahabaleshwar (1300 meter), way down from 2900 km of clouds. Average elevation of western ghats is 1200 meter.

Good point. Average height of Shaydri range should be 1.2 kms. However Rain bearing clouds over Maharashtra do start at 2.9 kms.

However ...I dont see how this is good news.
