India rises to rank 26 from spot 99 in World Bank's power list

Great work by Power minister...I think he is up to take bigger responsibility of Defense Ministry... or Finance... maybe...

In some time from now, 100% electrification shall take place. Gujarat and Madhyapradesh are already load shading free states. We can hope that few more states shall join it very soon. The most important thing which has happened to Indian power sector is that tariff of Solar electricity has gone down like anything and it is under Rs 2.50 now. In all probability, it will go down under Rs 2. A resource free, pollution free electricity available at under rs 2 per KWPH is nothing less than a blessing of goad. We are a country of lots of sun shine and we can use it. A huge quantity of water and coal and petroleum shall be saved. There will be no pollution and it will be damn cheap. India is all set to revolutionize Power sector and there is no doubt about it.

With all the cheap surplus electricity generated, India needs to take the next logical step now.

Moving to Electric Vehicles in a big big big way!

Start with Mass transport - Complete Railways Electrification, State/City Transport Buses. Then go on to popularize electric private vehicles. The advantages are just too many to list.

Very good point! I hope this ranking is not based on "the number of electrified Villages" , instead it should be based on the number of electrified HOMES. Nevertheless, it is still a great progress. Congratulations!

Problem is before even those that could afford it and wanted it at the rates offered now, could not get it (too expensive because of the corruption and bad bureaucracy). Expansion of the capacity and availability... and now targetting (the tougher nut) the discoms (distributors) management/finances is something I got to give a big credit to this administration for. Of course household ability to afford is next issue....but with the multiplier effect of the general area getting into the network (creating more jobs etc), it will help a lot over time....just like it did with things the govt never fully bureaucratised in the first place (like cellphones, internet).

Providing the assured availability I guess is similar to the sanitation program going on too. It is really the first major step, then you fill in the voids left behind it after you reach 100% provision rate (to ensure near 100% use).

This govt also were able to target poor households very well with provision of gas for cooking by reducing the production side subsidy (benefited the larger users way more) and focusing on consumption - based direct discount. I have a feeling this is why BJP party is getting a solid, resilient vote base now from poor people in the least developed areas of India especially.

They now know the model to both save money fiscally overall (and lessen strain on the macro economy), but also deliver to the sections of the country that the subsidies sought to help in the first place. Essentially its making use and piggybacking off the cheaper information technology available today.....like how you can access your bank account and govt subsidy with just a cheap mobile phone in your village....compared to before where you had to take hours in a day off to go to the bank which made it somewhat unfeasible for the poorest people (and hence the govt threw money at the producers of the item to physically lower its market cost - which was much more wasteful).

BJP needs to win a second term in 2019 or all our hard won gains will be eradicated by Congress and other such parties.

Congress and its allied parties have a single point goal - to Keep India poor so that they can get elected repeatedly by giving doles.

They will do anything in their power to keep us poor.

Nitish is almost there with this ghar wapsi into NDA.
BJP unlike the "secular gang" does not publish their plans in the "secular media". More often than not, until it is done, "secular media" can not even see it.

BJP is making a lot of moves to counter the "secular alliance" ;)

Nitish is a snake. Don't count on him doing anything other than pay lip service to both blocks to keep his seat.

What we need to do is remove Congress from Karnataka next and as a priority. We need to remove the funding that Congress party is getting. Karnataka is not just a big state, it is also a prosperous state.
And I see difficulties in making that happen. Yediurappa succeeding is doubtful.

Nitish is a snake and BJP knows it very well. He will be "our" snake until we don't need him.

BJP Karnataka is in strange place. Too much infighting but I am looking at JDS and wondering if they will play the king maker in next elections.

Lets hope for the best.

We need to keep the opposition parties off balance. 8 months before 2019 elections, GoI needs to come up with something like 'demonetization' which splits the secular parties.

While in India you have private distributors to blame, there is ONLY the government to blame in China if the state grid doesn't provide electricity to remote areas. Sometimes, I do appreciate the state owned enterprises, as their primary goal is not to generate profit for stock holders but to fulfill the development targets set forth by the government.

This model works for China but won't work in India.
Govt employees are lethargic, worse than the private sector people, with little or no accountability.

In India the private discoms are not the problem but the state govts that create huge problems for them. For example, power theft is common but govt won't address it and discoms in turn make losses. It's a vicious circle.

Accountability is THE keyword!

These guys have unions which have a huge say in elections.
It is almost next to impossible to fire a govt employee, unless that person is caught in corruption.

There has never been a case of an Indian govt employee being fired for incompetence.

This maybe a problem. You may have read the news, Chinese government employees have been sacked, jailed, or even executed for all kind of offences, ranging from incompetence to personal misconducts to corruption charges.

Not just Gujarat and MP, but Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Many southern states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand etc are pretty much load shedding free too.....even UP is now doing very well and the load shedding in rural parts f UP has come down from 10-12 hours to just 2-4 hours within 2-3 months......hope to see it further improved.
