It all depends upon what our military planners think... since, they are on the war zone... they know the real picture and how to tackle it... and nothing is too expensive if you can easily afford it and fits in your plan...

IMO fire and forget ATGMs are needed in hot situations not on LOC.

Of course they are not, they are purely anti armour it's just media jingoistic bullcrap about them being on loc, they are for knocking enemy armour out only from long range , the missiles are very very expensive as well, they will most likely be used in plains deserts and in a very very few cases in a bit of plains valley their is on loc ie near Sialkot although that is not technically loc,
Never the less it's a good addition to the Indian armament one we should prepare for with a development of APS, both hard and soft kill ,

We don't have capability analogous to spike ie fire and forget atgm that is man portable, we wire guided atgms in the thousands like baktar shikan tow etc, which India does too

Wire guided where Operator is guiding the missile till it reaches the target is still considered a dependable weapon system.

IR guided have their own set of problems.

IR guidance has issues in high temperatures also. French Army had issues with Javelin ATGM Thermal Cameras in Afghanistan (one of the links above).
