india receives first of 4 new 15b class destroyers

MDL Delivers “Visakhapatnam” – First P15B Destroyer to Indian Navy
Indian shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) delivered the first P15B Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) to the Indian Navy on 28 October 2021 in Mumbai.

Visakhapatnam is the first of four vessels on order for the Indian Navy. The first-in-class ship was laid down in October 2013 and launched in April 2015. It was followed by the future INS Mormugao which was launched in September 2016. The third destroyer, Imphal, was launched in April 2019. The fourth and final vessel of the class will be Porbandar which is expected to be launched next year. All four destroyers are being built at MDL. Visakhapatnam is set to be commissioned in December 2021.

“Induction of the destroyer will not only enhance combat readiness of the Indian Navy but will also be a major leap forward towards our quest for Aatmanirbhar Bharat”

Indian Navy statement

AatmaNirbhar Bharat is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation.

The Project 15B (P15B) / Visakhapatnam-class is the latest destroyer design currently under construction for the Indian Navy. These ships have been designed indigenously by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design, New Delhi. Each ship spans 163 metres in length and 17.4 metres at beam and displaces 7,300 tonnes. These ships will be propelled by four gas turbines to achieve speed in excess of 30 knots.

Visakhapatnam is the first P15B Destroyer for the Indian Navy. Indian Navy picture.

According to the Indian Navy, the P15B destroyers incorporate new design concepts for improved survivability, sea keeping, stealth and maneuverability. Enhanced stealth features have been achieved through shaping of hull and use of radar transparent deck fittings which make these ships difficult to detect. The design around the bridge area appears to be main design change compared to the preceding Kolkata-class. P15B ships will be equipped to carry and operate two multi-role helicopters.

The Visakhapatnam-class shares several sensor and weapon systems with its preceding design, the Kolkata-class (Project 15A) of destroyers: The IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR S-band AESA multi-function radar, Thales LW-08 D-band air search radar, BEL HUMSA-NG bow sonar are fitted on both classes. Like Project 15A, the Project 15B will be fitted with 32x Barak 8 surface to air missiles (launched from VLS cells) as well as 16 BrahMos anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles.

While the Visakhapatnam-class was initially set to receive a 127mm main gun (by BAE Systems), the main gun is finally similar to that of the Kolkata-class: 76mm by Leonardo.

Looks like an achievement to be honest. Nothing to make fun of.

Your writing skills are such that you are able to turn a serious topic into a comedy show.

The link you shared is not working by the way.

It should be on par with Type 052D.

Its target performance is close to the upgraded 052C class. But the warship has gathered too many national weapons, and Indians always like to boast. It is difficult for us to predict its real ability.

If Indians really want to develop warship manufacturing, they should buy South Korea's KDX-III destroyers. Half made in Korea and half in India. Only in this way can Indians train qualified workers and designers. However, it is difficult to ask for more kickbacks for this method of buying warships, I don't think Indian officers will agree.

world class? Indian's mouth is indeed world class

ship building industry is dominated by east asia China, Korea, Japan, and traditional west block but limited to military ships now
Exactly. By now China has already risen to 38.7% of global share, a close second to South Korea (43.7% domestic only, excluding another 2.4% by their overseas shipyard in Vietnam & Philippines) and surpassed Japan (11.5%), these combined dominates 96.3% of global shipbuilding, and he touts India world-class?

Why couldn't you name your new Mee-shyle deshtroier something easy, something other than what makes people's teeth fall off?

What kind of a name is "Wiz-ugga-fart-numb" ?

I mean why couldn't they name it like BNS Bang-a-Bandhu aka ''incest class'' frigate. Says a lot about the flag it flies.

Not to forget that *this* is the best you could achieve in Naval shipbuilding.

Idiots with a fishing fleet Navy belittling a 7400 tonne destroyer lol.

This isn't about stitching underwear in those sweatshops... the only thing 160 million swamp creatures are capable of.:rofl:
where is "world-class" India?

From your own link. Now disown it as you would usually do.

The sector has two major segments: namely commercial and naval segments. Presently commercial shipbuilding sectors are dominated by China, Japan, Korea, European Countries; whereas naval shipbuilding sector is dominated by USA, China, EC, Russia, Japan, India.
Joke of the Century

Joke of the century = 11 area fleet defense destroyers/ heavy frigates delivered in the next 4 years?

it has even less missiles than 052C and costs like 300 million more than 055
its certainly a leap for the Indian navy, but decades behind what the us and china is fielding.

What a bunch of sad f*ck*ps. Lieutenant commodore dead in a minor blaze. These are the "world-class" standards Indian Navy has.

You don't even have a aircraft carrier , and no my phone is made in india atleast and not made by walton

Your shipbuilders get paid by your own government to build naval ships, of course they "dominate" your very own naval market, can they so the same in global commercial market? That link is lovely, it tells you about the reality how competitive is your "world-class" shipbuilding in global commercial market share, which is zero, what's bad about the link for me to disown?

Well great "indengious" development! Happy for all Sanghis and good chest-beating opportunity !!

Happy for you, except you need to install a world-class spellcheck app on your Chinese "non-indengious" cellphone you're posting from, since your own spelling needs some improvement. :-)

this is the economy of city of vishakhapattanam.
I thought Bangladeshis are literate people , never knew they couldnt spell such an easy spelling.
The day you stop using wooden doors in your bangladesh coastguard ship , then talk .
This destroyer can level up your all coastal towns .
Now cry
China is a great country , even though our enemies I have respect for them
Why should I respect bangladeshis here for who don't even operate a destroyer ?
Pakistan navy is way better , heck it iran navy is also better than the Navy of bengal tiger .

Chinese or Pakistanis say things about us , is a non issue as they both operate equivalent and even more capable ships no doubt , but when Bangladeshis say moronic things , it's necessary to retaliate .

Visakhapatnam is named after a temple built for a local goddess in 4th century , any way it's another name is kulatungapatnam after raja chola who invaded jawa and spread hinduism there too.
He was a great king though .

By the way , what kind of name of Chittagong or barisal ?

Did you read what your source said? Here is it for you again.

The sector has two major segments: namely commercial and naval segments. Presently commercial shipbuilding sectors are dominated by China, Japan, Korea, European Countries; whereas naval shipbuilding sector is dominated by USA, China, EC, Russia, Japan, India.

It means that Naval shipbuilding in India has a major share in Global naval shipbuilding industry. That says a lot about Indian Naval shipbuilding capabilities

What does commercial shipbuilding have to do with this?

Could you tell me how many million tons of warships India has exported in the last 10 years?
