GoI do not take single Re as aid from any other nation. This so called aid goes to Christian schools and Missionaries. The amount come UK is less than the cost of one good corvette in Indian navy and much less than average aid Indian gives to other nation every year.

Dont malign Christian institutions for nothing. British are not catholic. They dont give a penny to them. You dont even have an idea of the financial might of catholic institutions. Afterall they run thousands of schools, colleges and hospitals in India.

In tamilnadu,state government is issuing 10kg rice bag/month for free. 50% subsidary price in wheat, flour, cereals , cooking oil etc.
so my opinion is, less than 2$/day is more than enough to have a healthy life in india.

@ peoplewho think that the indians are not capable of spending not more than 2$ per day.
On assuming 1$ = 50 Rs
let me give small budget calculation.

If a person goes to normal hotel.
Morning tea or coffee: Rs 5/-
Morning breakfast: Rs 20/-(A plate of idli with vada, dosa, chappathi, poori etc)
Afternoon lunch: Rs 30/-(a full thali meals is more than a enough for a person)
Evening tea and snacks: Rs 15/-
Dinner: Rs 20/-(chappath, rise or poori).

Total: Rs 90/- is enough to have a normal life.(which is ofcourse less than 2$)

If it is self prepared in home then it reduces 60% of expenditure for food.
So there is not much person in india who sleeps hungry daily with spending less than 2$/day

Thats a good point but more needs to be done. The reason is because though they may be able to feed themselves, there is a serious lack of nutrionational content in the food they are eating.

Many Christian run colleges and schools in Kerala now come under 'aided' section in Kerala, that means that they get money from Govt as grant and also the teacher's salary is paid by Govt but the teachers are appointed by the management taking huge sums as 'donations'.Its an open secret.

Its true that missionaries have done a great deal in improving the educational sector of Kerala, but now they are acting more as politicians and not as priests. They interfere every year in the professional admission procedure and its one of the reasons why Commies loss during the last election as they tried to reign in the management educational institutions mainly run by Christians.

The donations issue you point out is not inherent to Chrisitian run Schools. I went to PES college in bangalore a few yrs back and let me me make it clear to you, there is a donation scheme for all students entering the program I was in . The rates differed from student to student and state to state as well as being an NRI. I believe such issues are banned under the law recently but it may still go on. I mean that comes down to corruption not religion. Its would be myopic to blame the fault on Christians and Missionaires. As for your statement bout Priests getting involved in politics, it depends. Im not all for it but the Church in Kerala wields considerable influence per the number of voters. I mean BJP/RSS is involved in politics and they have close ties to Hindu priests/agendas as well as Muslim parties. So, before you point out such claims and focus on one group realize this is a problem that affects all ppl, regardless of religious affilation. I for one, would prefer, non criminals, no religious affilations politicans to work for the ppl but till folks get smarter and start thinking about the nation as one instead of themselves, its not going to change. The politicans won;t even pass the LOK PAL giving numerous BS reasons to save their ***. I ask you where is that momentum that was pushing the gov;t? It seems the gov't is waiting for Anna to die and the ppl have already forgotten. Gandhi fought for yrs to get India freedom, yet we give up after one shot. Pathetic if you ask me.
