India on Wednesday said it can undertake operations against the ISIS terror group under a UN flag if the global body adopts a resolution in this regard. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has returned after a crucial meeting with his US counterpart Ashton Carter in Washington, also said that India has been sharing intelligence on the ISIS and it will be enhanced.

“We have made it clear that if there is a UN resolution and if there is UN flag and a UN mission, then as per India’s policy to operate under UN flag, we will participate,” Parrikar told reporters here at India Gate after laying wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti on Vijay Diwas.

He was replying to questions on the possibility of India’s participation in operations against the ISIS. Asked specifically if India will operate against the ISIS under the UN flag, he said, “that depends on whether UN takes a resolution”. India had earlier this month, along with major world economies, participated in the first-ever global meeting held in Paris to discuss and evolve mechanisms to combat the clandestine and largely undetected terrorist financing network of the Islamic State terror group.

India ready for operation against ISIS if UN adopts resolution: Parrikar | The Indian Express

Should India agree to fight the ISIS under the UN flag? I think all nations should come together and put a million boots on the ground to obliterate the scourge of the IS once and for all. India could contribute a brigade group with supporting arms and services.

But would it be wise at this stage? What's your opinion?

India does not have the training nor experience to deal with ISIS... Sending in Indian soldiers SF or not, will be a massacre.

So you think the rag tag ISIS are supermen? For your information, the Indian Army is training more than 20 armies around the world in COIN and anti terror operations in India including the United States. And you come out with this gem that the Indian Army isn't capable and trained to take on the fudgy ISIS nuts?

Get real. You're living in cuckoo land.

They did quite well winning wars in the region. I'd say they are best experienced in S Asia. Our soldiers say they are top notch bunch too.

I think you can trust them to annihilate those radical islamists. Something tells me them Hindus would cherish it, and why not!

Indian textbooks also say that the Taj Mahal was built by Hindu architects, and that India is a "supa power". Sticking to bollywood fantasy films and Indian textbooks isnt going to get you anywhere in the real world - boy.

Give me sources about your "training more than 20 armies". I'm not trying to offend anyone - but India is more experinced in conventional warfare than the warfare ISIS fights. If a whole city was besieged by 10 children with rusty AKs in Mumbai, despite there being hundreds of policemen and military personnel then how the hell do you expect the Indian army to take on ISIS?

What their textbooks say on Taj mahal , albeit you are such troll here that I would doubt your tall tale, yet is of no concern to me. I know what world agrees on their wars.

Mumbai was besieged because it was an active shooter scenario, a very different scenario than war. I don't imagine you would be knowledgeable about this stuff. An active shooter scenario is much like what happened in Peshawar or in San Bernardino. Surely you don't think we are not good enough too.

The world learned from that situation believe it or not. Active shooter scenarios are now treated differently like in France. Traditionally, it was about surround and wait for hostage negotiations- but now radical islamist are about kill as many, which has led to a change of going at them as soon as you can. That is very very different than a war!

"No" if not a "Not now"...... As long as they are not a threat to us, India should not act directly......... But need to support those who fights ISIS

We are reading too much into this. India will never fight ISIS and its not our business.
Americans created them and they deal with them.
But, India will not step behind and crush them, if they bad eye India.

Remember the 40 Indian nurses trapped in Iraq and Doval's secret trip to Iraq to free them?
Isis sent them back to India unscathed.
I've a feeling Isis will stay clear of India- lets maintain the status quo.
