India ranks 142nd on global press freedom index 2020

The RSS fake news factories and subsequent harassment of international and local press is a continued policy of many successive Indian governments.

With over 16 major independence movements in India, it is nothing short of a miracle that the word does not get out of the Indian jungle

Do not forget, their own analyst exposed their lies when their aircrafts were shot down. And recently one British journalist/comedian has used one of Arnab Goswami’s clip and exposed his lies and made fun of his journalism.

We have some problems like the recent journalist killing in Sindh. That is a governance issue and not an issue of imposed nationalism through fascist indoctrination.

The fact is, you have less press freedom than India, even at a time when India has a so called "fascist" government in power. That's a sad state of affairs for you. Accept it and change whatever is wrong instead of making excuses. India should work on it's issues too.

At least you acknowledged that there is some problem. I appreciated that. So the moral is instead of looking at others' drawbacks, we should concenteate on our own and try to solve them. It is applied for everyone.

This article Specifically has named India, so obviously Indian media’s flaws would be discussed. No?

wait you serious? A journalist young woman who is not even Muslim, spoke up for Muslims rights few months back and she was literally threatened for her life.
Is this what you call freedom?

But ideally the discussion should be an open ended and not just bashing. Everyone should acknowledge their own faults also and discuss about the ways to rectify them. That's called a constructive arguement I guess. Look even the link given in the OP is also from an Indian media, that's why they mentioned only about India and not others.

There seems to be complete denial from the Indian counterpart in search of some fantasised Greater Indian empire.

India has a dedicated news fabrication factories as international media highlighted

What are your opinions on use of internet tracing by vigilante nationalistic Indians hurt by it's economic demise?

Is that why got rated, below India, because you have a selected prime minister ?
As I said, world can expect low press freedom from countries like China & Pakistan but what about muh hindustan? The shiniest, brightest, self proclaimed world's largest so called democracy? Very disappointing.

At least me and my likemindeds are not in a denial mode for any issues. To me, acknowledging one's own fault is the stepping stone for getting rid of it.

This rating is not about expectation, it is about the reality, on how much freedom a country has.

And that is, even with the most heavy handed government in decades(since Indra Gandhi's emergency) Indian is better than Pakistan.

Where as Pakistan, with its most progressive government(according to Pakistanis at least) is still worse off than India.

What progressive governments have to do with freedom of press?

Chinese govt. is the most progressive one in this subcontinent & look at their press freedom.

London: India has dropped two places on a global press freedom index to be ranked 142nd out of 180 countries in the annual Reporters Without Borders analysis released on Tuesday.

'The World Press Freedom Index 2020' said that with no murders of journalists in India in 2019, as against six in 2018, the security situation for the country's media might seem, on the face of it, to have improved.

"However, there have been constant press freedom violations, including police violence against journalists, ambushes by political activists, and reprisals instigated by criminal groups or corrupt local officials," it said.

Paris-based Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF), or Reporters Without Borders, is a non-profit organisation that works to document and combat attacks on journalists around the world.

South Asia in general features poorly on the index, with Pakistan dropping three places to 145, and Bangladesh dropping one place to 151.

Norway is ranked first in the Index for the fourth year running. China at 177th position is just three places above North Korea, which is at 180th.

Hey Mr Sling why are you posting negative stuff about the Indians, is the lover affair between India and Israel over? Perhaps their new Nazi bosom ideology is making you feel uncomfortable?

I believe social media comes under press and hence not off topic.

Doe this index include social media as one of the criteria ? Can you pot a link saying that ? Also, I have not much knowledge of the subject you mentioned. It would be helpful if you can help me with some link for that too.
