Social index comes only after economic index improves. What these people need is pure hard economic development for a decade. That would lead to disposable income. Around this time social impact projects would also bear greater results because of enhanced economic activity.

I agree economic index is a very important factor...... But that alone not going to resolve the issue, if it was then central could have pumped in money on infrastructure and would have had a great impact.....

One need to understand the reason why these states are so poor, when other states are improving..... There would be something which is different right???

I think corruption is one of the most important point in this aspect followed by attitude of people (it could be attitude towards education, corruption, caste, etc etc)

I agree among BIMARU, the worst performing states were those you mentioned....... UP, Bihar, and Jharkand need to be focused so that the people of those states are better off.... I do not know how is "Orissa" these days......

btw large population also means large labor force.. only if we could use it properly.. but population is also big problem!

On the contrary.. think .. we have pulled out more than 300 Million people out abject poverty... thats' more than population of America.. but this poverty still hounds India....because people just don't stop breeding... look at Indian families.. previous generation were like six...seven ... even 10 Siblings... and then they cry we are poor.... damn if you have 100 Rupees.. and have 10 kids.. you can only spend 10 rupees on one kid..as against you having 2 kids then you have 50 to spend on on kid...

I have seen this my immediate neighbor.... our man had 11 kids (1 died during delivery)..... The most important thing is, in the last delivery the lady had a company, her first daughter who also delivered her first baby around the same time :p.... those days they were one of the poorest family around, and that guy had to put 2 of his sons on a orphanage (yatheemkhana which has its school) for studies. but today he is very rich , because all his children started earning and earning handsomely, and now he has 10 children supporting him........ So this is another side of the coin......

cant argue on that... besides even the current generation of poor pump a kid out every year... mostly because of lack of educations..and the same goes for next generation of poor! a beggar giving birth to 5 kids ...creating more beggars!

I saw you intention in bringing up this thread and here it is.. Anyways, if the numbers are from reliable sources, than it shows that we have a long time to go and Indian Govt should take some rigorous steps to bring those states which are poor, to bring up..
