. . .
Where does it say that Russia ignored India's concerns ?

May be they just convinced us with some other deal, their Deputy PM was here. I anyway don't think India had any major objections. It was all media created sensationalist hype.
Exactly, we did token protest which is expected. I do not think we are making great effort to stop it. In relationship we have criticality attached to these kinds of decision and I feel this was lower criticality item. It like saying that if you sell these we will be unhappy but there are other things which might force government to revisit relationship and if those items come-up Russia will react differently.

.
you guys will need it especially since Russia has finally seen how you guys have been playing a double game with them
what double games, we buy and pay so we'll buy at our terms.
Russia can sell to pakistan, and we have other suppliers ... its a fair deal
Fact that Russian prime minister came to India says alot, anyways they made their decision, we will make ours on future purchases too

.
if america can sell weapons to both india and pakistan, and india has no problems with them and still buy expensive weapons from americans why cant russians...russia want money to sustain and develop it nation they are trying to say to india that they are not solely dependant on indian cow....

surely russia can sell, but we cannot buy same weapons as with Pakistan,
We bought transportation weapons from US not fighter jets such a F-16 which pakistan have

It's just a chopper, that's Russia and India both aren't bothering much. However,if it's a destroyer or fighter plane then there will be a louder , genuine protest from India and Russia's reaction would most probably be different.

The term is double crossers

Getting candy from USA and then getting candy from Russia and telling Russians not to sell stuff to Pakistan

Delhi concerned as Russia plans to sell Mi-35s helicopters to Pakistan

article-2664615-1F00092100000578-435_233x423.jpg

Barely two days after India flagged its concerns to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin about Russia's plans to sell military hardware to Pakistan, the neighbouring country's National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz travelled to Moscow and thanked the Russian leadership for an "agreement" to provide Mi-35 attack helicopters to Islamabad.

Indian leaders, including External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, raised concerns about the proposed Russian arms sales to Pakistan when Rogozin visited Delhi during June 18-19 to establish contact with the new NDA government.

New Delhi was irked by the move as about 60 per cent of India's defence imports are from Russia.

Government officials had earlier said that Russia's plans to sell lethal military equipment to Pakistan would amount to the crossing of a "red line" in relations between New Delhi and Moscow.

Soon after Rogozin left India, Sartaj Aziz, the Advisor to Pakistan's premier on National Security and Foreign Affairs, met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Friday.

"Mr Aziz thanked Mr Lavrov for Russian agreement to provide Mi-35 helicopters to Pakistan and expressed the hope that Pakistan's further request for defence equipment would also be considered soon as part of our continued defence collaboration," said a statement issued by Pakistan's Foreign Office.

The statement further quoted Lavrov as saying that Russia is "keen to expand its relations with Pakistan" since close cooperation between the two sides would help build stability and prosperity in the region.

About Decade ago Russia would not even have thought about selling anything to Pakistan. Then around 5 years ago it was the engines for JF-17. Now it is Mi-35. Some time in near future it might also be fighters.

A decade a go India would have protested and Russia would have obliged. Five years a go India protested and Russia calmed them. Today Russia ignored Indian protests. When it shall be fighters Russia wouldn't even bother to take India into confidence.

A decade a go India would have proudly said wee we killed the deal. Five years a go India said it is just engines. Today you are saying it is just chopper. Next time you would say it is just fighters.

My dear world is changing. Learn to adapt.

I don't see the big deal here, India have been acquiring more and more defence equipment from the west, it's only normal that the Russians look for other buyers for their wares.

Fighters, however would be a whole other can of worms.. not happening now, or in the foreseeable future imo

Don't expect anything 5th gen though-As long as we keep doing deals like FGFA with them.

Five years a go India said it is just engines.

Are you overlooking the role of China in the engine deal ? Mikoyan was collaborating with China for JF 17,even back in the '90s.
