I am not sure of Saraswat's statement. I think any credible person in the Indian establishment should only make superiority statements once the technology has been proved beyond any doubt. To make such proclamations at the very early stages or the onset, diminishes Mr. Saraswats claim. All said and done if the AAD really is better that PAC-3 then why is the army showing interest in the latter. Again, these reports have to give more details. Lets see what MMS is gonna get from the US during this trip. I am not comfortable with Obama, the man is making too many compromises world wide for a US President.
As explained by Mr Spitfighter in post# 12
PAC-3 is a tried and tested system and is targeted for immediate needs..I for some reason thought we will get it only around 2014-2015...By then we are expected to get fully working AAD which is claimed to be a better system than PAC-3...Now i know due to past record of DRDO we have lot of suspicion about its capabilities...However please note that unlike any other project BMD is one for whom GOI is desperate for...So far DRDO has not disappointed in this regard....
Secondly my understanding is that BMD is a very costly system and it is very important to have a potent indegenous system....MIssile technology will keep on improving and so has to be your defence system...Thus AAD project of DRDO has full backing from GOI and i am very hopeful that DRDO will deliver what it promised...
As i said in above post if we are going to get PAC-3 in a year or two then it make perfect sense to go for it..However if the time period is around 2014-2015 then i am doubtful if this is a good move...
