India planning to tie up with Russia in naval ship-building field

Then why not on the eastern coast. That is much much more secure. Remember all out missile tests and nuke sub are all happening in east coast.

I have nothing against Kerala getting the orders but lets not deny the obvious relations ship between Antony and his state.

Like I said earlier, its a R&D unit. And Kerala is one of the best educated states in India

.
Kerala is a good place to set up R&D units. It has a very well educated and capable population with excellent educatation and has strong connections to the Navy and to the ocean itself.

Kerala is a good place, no doubts and the only problem is its very well educated population. ;) The problem is you just dont know when they are going to start picking up the red flag.{just joking}

Please see my previous post. It has nothing to do with education. If Lalu was defence minister all of them would be in Bihar or in case of Mamta in Bengal. This is India. Thats how all politicians act. There are hardly few who put national interest first.

Or has it just something to do with the shipyards in Kerala? Isn't Cochin Shipyard the biggest in India?

I know but the question is if the Russian had invested their money to set up a R&D unit in Bihar :O ^^

Definitely no.

Lol, Bihar with no access to the Ocean would host shipyards??

Mate the others are not wrong in what they say, Kerala does have a good base for such projects, education is one thing but there is the naval industrial base to back it up. Also it is not just Kerala but many states with a coastline who are getting these projects like Goa, Maharashtra, Gujrat etc

Just be happy these things are happening in INDIA forget what state it is.

Definitely no.

It's one of the biggest at least. Why waste resources setting up infrastructure and building up skills when there is already the required skills/experince and industrial base in Kerala or anywhere else??

 You don't have to take everything literally. But do you realize what INS Shivaji is and where it is located. Or where the head quarters of Indian Navy is located. Not every thing related to Navy has to be on the coast. And I was not talking about Shipyards. Its an R&D center we are talking about. Anyways we are diverting from the point I was making.

Definitely no.

Ship Building In India

Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi, Visakhapatnam and Marmagao are the primary ship-building centres in India. They are all within the public sector. The private sector shipyards oversee the local needs. Kochi Shipyard, the latest and the largest in India, has been developed in collaboration with Japanese know-how. It can build a ship of 86,000 tonnes dead weight. Two such ships have been rendered thus far. The Visakhapatnam yard can handle passing of ships up to 45,000 DWT. The Visakhapatnam shipyard has built 89 ships since Independence.

Dry docks are meant for fixing colossal ships. Generally they hold ships up to 10,000 DWT. But a dock in Mumbai can allow in a ship with a maximum 20,000 DWT. The other in Vishakhapatnam can allow a ship up to 70,000 DWT and at Kochi up to 1 lakh DWT. The Kochi shipyard has build 3 bulk carriers of 75,000 DWT each. It now manufactures battleships for the Indian Navy. There are plans in the pipeline to manufacture aircraft carriers in India. Such a ship will take a couple of years to reach completion, after the work commences. 62 fishing crafts have been built indigenously and 26 more are under production.

Ship Building In India

The article is from 2009, so not sure if it still is the biggest, but definitely one of the biggest for sure and when you have the biggest capacities in Kerala, it's rather logical to have a ship building research center nearby as well. Same reason why most aero sector companies and re-search centers are now located around Bangalore.
It's not always something personal if a politician takes a decision, although I know that in India the chances are higher.

1. Its home to the Southern Command of the IN.
2. The largest ship-building and maintenance facility in India, churning out 100 marine graduates every year.
3. The ability to moor even aircraft carriers very close to the shore. The aircraft carriers are being/going to be built in Cochin.
4. Its hosts the largest training establishment of the IN.

Anything regarding the Navy and its assets should be around the coast. Access to water will surely aid any R&D projects. Comparing Ak Anthny to Lalu and Mamata makes you loose credibility

With due respect I speak what I think is right and how others perceive my credibility is secondary to me. I already gave proof of what Antony has done. Feel free to do a google search. If Kerala had the only coastline in India then I would agree with you but sadly its not. Its not even 10% of India's coastline.

Most politicians behave this way, takes a project to his home state based on merit or not. But you must have something against Kerala, else you won't have come this far.

 That was the first thing I said in my first comment on this topic that I have nothing against Kerala. My comment was only to point out that Antony is no different. Anyways you shouldn't show so much haste in making judgement about people. Just a suggestion.

You said 'I don't have anything against Kerala' & then went on a Kerala bashing spree. Got me confused :agree:
